Any Tips or Tricks?

Post by Beruldsen »

I'm new to Toaw and I played the Kasserine tutorial ... I think I have a general idea of how to play. This is all versus the PO or AI or whatever you call it.

So I've played 80 turns or so of the long North Africa scenario (as Axis) and I seem to be getting hammered. Specifically, I have the following questions:
1. The British Navy appears to be clobbering my troops along the coast ... is there something I can to counter this? Air perhaps?
2. Is there an appropriate sequence to stage an attack? I have plenty of arty but not sure how to better coordinate with the attack ... they are often not present in the planner.
3. I've set fighters to AS and all the rest to Interdiction ... I haven't really done anything on specific land attacks. I don't feel like I'm managing the air war properly and I'm losing a ton of aircraft.
4. Should AA be in the same stack as aircraft to be effective? Where else do you place your AA?
4. Are All Unit attacks better than attacking via individual stacks?
5. As the end of the turn approaches I set all the front line troops to dig in. I'm assuming this is a good idea?
6. Is there anything special you do as the turn is about to end?
7. Is there a way to improve recon aside from just sending units forward?
8. In the first 30-40 turns of this scenario the Italians get hammered and I've got a bunch of displaced units many without HQs ... is there a way they can be combined?
9. Can smaller units be combined into larger units?

Any other thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

1. I have not played the scenario ...

2. Art in tactical setting will support an attack or defence, check the post battle results to see if they did. Really hvy art is good for making enemy units go out of fortified stance. make sure to hit them with art and then attack in the subsequent combat round.

3. thats the correct setting, make sure you check the range of your fighters...

4. AA units should be on airfields in case of an enemy airfield attack. Some people places them on bridges to guard against bridge bombing missions. To hamper your supply lines.

5 and 6. Yes thats a good idea, but remeber to use units in tactical reserves, in case you get attacked. those cant dig in.

8. Dont think so, do the HQs reconstitute?

9. Dont think so, unless you divided them to begin with.

8.) HQ, as all other units, can reconstitute IF it's intended in the scenario by the designer.
