AI Bridge Repair

Post by Dr. Foo »

I'm playing a Korea scenario, I'm blowing bridges but the AI does not seem interested in repairing them even though there are eng units.

It the bridge is not along the units formation path will it just ignore blown bridges in the rear?

How can I fix this, I want to blow the enemy bridges but I also want the PO to fix them.

I read somewhere that one of the 'uses' of Elmer was to mitigate the fact that the PO is not good at bridge building. You can switch sides and program the enemy engineer units to repair the bridges, I assume. Or just do it manually then switch back. But it's hardly ideal as you will see all the enemy dispositions. But I think I read that.

It varies depending on the situation, sometimes Elmer will repair a lot, sometimes not very much. If you are designing a scenario and have identified this as an issue, there is probably something that can be done.

In my Tutorial '41 as well as the Kharkov '43 the pesky PO in fact was able and more than willing to repair bombed or already destroyed bridges! I think Elmer also bases it's priority on an algorithm, e.g. in Kharkov '43 the engineers of Mobile Group Popov did just that, because the objective path and priority targets had them cross the river in force.
