Combat Reports - and combat system

Post by AlbertN »

New Scenario, the AI starts and I observe; selecting to be the Germans to get the reports.

At the third report of this type, I am a bit puzzled.
It lists an amount of Soviet units "supporting" the attack. (Do they take part?)
Then when there is the list of the Soviet assets involved, the list is abysmally tiny compared to the German forces. Yet it seems a handful of heavy tanks did entire mayhem on the Germans.

This was not a single occasion, but the 3rd time I saw this kind of report. In the other two though, instead of SU152 tanks there were SU76 (That suffered similar losses too).
My 6th sense tells me there is something I do not know here, or that there is a bogus aspect.

All the supporting units listed are nearby artillery with orders set to support combat in range; which they do with a half strength bombardment. While the tanks were charging in and getting chewed up by your AT fire all the guns hammered the crap out of your soft targets.

THe limiting factor is that while long range arty can support large numbers of battles on a single turn; the more they do the faster they burn down all their supply.
Did you ever see history portrayed as an old man ... weighing all things in the balance of reason?
Is not [it] an eternal, imploring maiden, full of fire, with a burning heart and flaming soul, humanly warm and humanly beautiful?

Thanks for the explaination.
Though how come the infantry (SMG squads, etc) of the Soviets are not butchered?

Looks like the soviet broke the attack early? And most of the damage is done by artillery?
That's some damage that the Germans took, more info would help to clarify this.

I think Dan is correct, Meyer. I just wonder why to not just bombard first then.

It's turn1, Soviet AI, of Berlin'45 scenario. Just the very beginning of it.
