Global WW 2?
Global WW 2?
I am unfamiliar with this game. Is there an option to play all of ww2 at once? Kinda like a world in flames game?
thanks
thanks
RE: Global WW 2?
The game is very scalable and allows one to do a WW2 global on a very large map. There are several scenarios that offer this.
But it is an operational game, not a strategic title. The scenario designer can setup events, control what equipment you get and when (technical advance come in as replacements), etc.
So yes to your question, but be aware that it is an operational design which includes Threatre Options for you to control some decisions that may have strategic impact during the game, but you won't find research screens, diplomacy screens, things more common to WW2 strategic titles.
Saying that, I still like TOAW methods for handling things, because for me, its all about the operational control of my fighting forces.

General Patton and I are right now playing World at War 1939-1945 and we're up to turn 20 (?)
or so and it's all about the entire world and all the forces that took part in the war, Greeks and
everybody. It takes a long time to get through a turn because of so many units in different parts
of the world doing different things maybe using different tactics, etc. It's huge and there's LOTs
of units .......and it's a monster. Good hunting.

1045? Is that the time? [:D]
At 10km per hex you can make a map of Europe from Iceland to the Urals, from northern most Norway to mid Ethiopia. You would even have some of Canada in it. If you made a 25km per hex map you could have most of the planet portrayed. You would have to be crazy to make either. Or to play either. [;)]

Question about map. I loaded the ww 2 1939-1945 scenario and Europe looks amazing. My question is..how do you view asia and the rest of the world? I suspect I can see japan and the pacific for example...but do not see how to ...make that view happen.
Thank you
Thank you

You could double click on the mini-map or press the key 'J'
to bring up the jump map. That would be the entire map.
That's my understanding.

Yes, plus on the global, there is an..unusual piecing together of the world map. It works but took me a bit to figure out. Thank you

There are multiple ways to view the entire map. The fastest way is to hit the b key and it will bring up a window for you to type in a location that is printed on the map. Just type in Tokyo, hit return and it will take you there. Type in San Diego and it takes you there. Type in Berlin and you are there. You can also type in the X.Y number if you know it and it will go there.
Another way is to put the cursor over the jump map and double click the left mouse button. That will bring up a larger jump map which shows most of the world map. Then click on that where you want to go.
You can also click on a unit and that will take you to the location of that unit anywhere on the map. Try not to scroll as that takes a while for this size of map. It is the largest possible map allowed in TOAW at this time.
RE: Global WW 2?
The jump map is new for TOAW with version IV. It was sorely needed and long overdue. With a 700x700 map it isn't a convenience. It's a necessity. Hot key for the jump map is J. Click on the map where you want to go.

I find the b key is most efficient. I go to the city anywhere on the map instantly.

You don`t always remember the name or location of every city, specially us not designers [:)]ORIGINAL: thomasharvey

The more you do it the better you get. Find just a few cities that cover the map with few letters in them and off you go.

You should do some aar about this larry - at least a mini-aar. I doubt this gets played much and it's a big commitment even to try it for a turn or three so an AAR would be helpful to those considering it.
