supply and amphibious

Post by IBender »

1. I am struggling with supply. I know it is not overly complicated but I am not understanding basic concepts. Like a port I have with the number 35 on it..indicating supply. I dont know what that 35 actually is. Other aspects of supply I am not understanding well. Can someone point me to an AAR or a tutorial that helps me understand supply?

2. Amphibious movment. I have a japanese amphibious unit on Truk. 8th Fleet, 1 AMP. Reading the rules I think I understand that these guys have their own build in ability to move amphibiously. Infact in their special abilities section it says "Amphibious Operations" Does this mean in fact they dont need to board a ship to move over water? Or does this mean something else? If it does mean they dont need ships to move over water...how do I move them from Truk?

Please note that I see I have placed this post in the wrong area. I do not know how to change its location. If someone can do that for me I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Thanks, I found the video particularly helpful.

Also, I am in Global ww2 1939-1945. That is where my interest lies, and I also figure I can see most if not all types of units and situations to learn from. The japanese unit is on island of Truk in the Pacific and it is identified as 8th Fleet 1 AMP.

Thanks

There is a "World at war 1939-1945" scenario in the WW2 Misc folder. Could be it.

Ok thanks! As luck would have it there is an exclusion zone around that unit so I couldn't use it for a decent screen shot. Below is a shot from a test scenario.
Units with the Amphibious Icon [as seen on the unit at the upper left] are eligible for Amphibious Operations. Such units can move across Shallow Water [light blue hexes as seen under part of the units movement path] and water obstacles such as Rivers and Major Rivers at no additional cost. They may not move thru Deep Water unless Embarked.

I guess my follow on question is...why would some places like Truk, Hawaii and many other islands in that ww2 1939-1945 have exclusion zones...if I understand what that means....units cannot pass through them.....wouldnt that mean in this scenario that many traditionally important pacific locations are unplayable? If so...why would you do that?

Manuals [all game manuals] are funny sometimes. Often we will see entries such as:
Amphibious Units – These units are capable
of independent Amphibious Movement.

The end. Ok, thanks for the info ! .

I haven't played that one, but I can almost guarantee that the exclusion zones are dropped at some point. Should be in the Briefing or Scenario Doc somewhere.

The war in Europe started in 1939 but the Pacific war didn't start until Dec. 7, '41 and
to prevent pre-emptive attacks by the Japs the exclusion zones are placed there by the
scenario designer. They will be removed when the time is right.
