GUI randomly freezes

Post by Ilovewar »

Hi.
I have a freshly installed PC having the following characteristics:
OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit with the latest updates installed
CPU: Intel i7 4770K 3.50 GHz
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
Graphic card: nVidia GTX770
The game was purchased on Steam, is installed on a 525 GB SSD and is at the version 1.13/972.11 (the latest now available on Steam, I think).
While playing my first two scenarios, I encountered the following problem in both of them:
The GUI randomly freezes (in one scenario just after sinking an enemy ship, in the other at the beginning while I was examining a unit in the database) for a few minutes,
during which every element in the game screen becomes totally unresponsive, even though the music keeps playing normally and the CPU, RAM and disks are definitely not overloaded.
After some minutes the GUI becomes responsive again and the simulation resumes.
Can anyone offer a solution for this very annoying issue?
Thanks

tech support will be able to offer more advice, but report as always would be needed or more maybe helpful as well

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

once the report has been made, just attach it to your post with first adding the file to a zip, which is then permitted to attach to the forum

Try the update and see if it resolves your issue.

tm.asp?m=4386511

You can just install it to the Command directory in steam.

If it still occurs post a save or at least let the devs know what scenarios you are seeing the issues in.

Thanks!

I’d like to report the IDENTICAL issue for the record before I forget. I guess I will make an individual report if the problem persists. The game becomes unresponsive (clicking anywhere in the window does nothing, including “X” to close open dialogs, like the ME) at complete random during normal gameplay (sometimes with dialogs like the DB open and sometimes not) and the problem is almost always solved (temporarily, until it happens again) by minimising the Command program, by pressing the bottom-right desktop shortcut in Widows 10 64-bit fully updated with Steam Command WOTY fully updated. When you bring it back up, it works as intended again. But eventually it happens again, maybe once every few hours. It feels like a memory leak or something, but CPU use is at 5-10% constant on an i7-4770K and there’s no excessive RAM use or anything else that’s obviously a problem. I have the same CPU and graphics card as OP, also installed on a 500GB SSD. My first freeze was also in the DB.

You might even begin to suspect we’re the same person now [:'(]

I’m going to wait for it to happen again, then patch it and see if it stops, but it’s pretty infrequent so it might take a while.

Thanks Gunn

You never know[8D]

If you could grab a save that would be helpful too.

Thanks!

I would check HD/SSD usage around the freeze time. I had the exact same issue last year when I swapped my HD out for an SSD. It turned out to be Windows doing a search indexing. My point is also check HD usage.
