I know I have seen an option for the classic map view. Anyone know where it is.

It is Classic ! It is clean and offers a specific map view with borders, not an undefined area with various sized boxes floating around. I haven't found anything that the the new look adds for me. So far it looks different, but I don't need that, nor new map graphics. I am an old fuddy duddy, I use the old map graphics, classic UI, and turn off the BTS's. I don't need any of it, but it is good that some like it considering how much time and effort went into it. Shame that some items in the classic stuff doesn't work now, though.

Among others, in TOAW III there were pictures in the dialogs! With the newspapers!

I would love the possibility to have different pictures for different events by the way.

And while I find IV a good game with some great improvements, yes I feel a lot like sPzAbt653.
I've even found myself playing in III since I bought IV, which only goes to say how good Classic was and still is.

I never played TOAW 3, or bought it, because I really hated the 'classic' look. The graphics were awful, I think, aesthetically, and - for me - not very clear. I'm not into flash graphics for counter-based wargames at all, but nevertheless I have a thing against hexy, board wargame-type graphics. I want the map to look as natural as possible. I really like the new TOAW 4 maps and the interface. It would be nice, as someone has commented, if the dialogues could hang around whilst you interacted with the map etc, but that's a small point. So, different things for different people. it's nice there are options to suit tastes.

I spent a lot of time with TOAW III and installed mods and generally liked the map graphics. But I still like the TOAW IV map look and UI much better. I like the classic look too, no problem with it, but just like the newer IV look better.

But the game allows you to adopt the look most pleasing to you, so that is good. I would also like to have the dialog to include pics, and agree it would be great with the events.

It's simple. Use the mods to your liking, peeps. I am happy with the Telumar mods, Stevo is a happy chap with the 'archaic' classics... so, thread closed, no? :P

Well, some folks need to be reminded that flexibility is [was?] a mainstay of TOAW. I like to hear that players are happy with the choices available.

For classic TOAW graphics, go to the installation directory "...\The Operational Art of War 4" and install the classic graphics pack from the file "Classic TOAW Graphics.EXE"

For classic TOAW toolbars in-game, please see the screenshot I uploaded. Click the button circled in red to expand the menu, then click on the button circled in yellow to restore the old toolbar interface.
