Sudden abandonment

Post by Realbilly261 »

Hello,

just an idea a friend asked me to discuss here:

There are a lot of people who suddenly give up a game. If they don´t see any chance to win or because other reasons.
That is often very annoying - especially when the game was played for a long time.

Is there any possibility to get the feature, that a player can continue the game against the KI after an opponent gave up?

Maybe having the name of serial give-uppers should appear in italics.

The italics of cowardice. [:D]

I doubt it's cowardice. I don't think anyone's been shot recently playing a pc game so no reasonable person would fear that.

However it's probably an allocation of time issue. Time spent on a game that's interesting is....well interesting and worthwhile. But time spent on a game that's over in both player's minds is really not time well spent at all usually, unless you just enjoy torturing someone then that's called sadism, or you want to see how some strategy you have in mind will play out even in a loss.

I rarely mind when a player concedes a game to me and am usually happy to accept it unless it's obviously not decided at all in which case I try to explain to the player why the game is far from over and encourage them to continue what is in fact an interesting game. If the game is usually still up for grabs I find that players will want to continue if given some logical encouragement. This is one reason I try to make sure I have a way to chat or at least email to the player when the game begins. So we can discuss the game for fun and also in case the other player is discouraged.

I'd rather have them concede and begin another interesting game for both players than torture them and take time from the one life they have to live when I know the situation in the game is really not very interesting at all and quite decided already. These are just games played for fun, not money, and I hope both sides are having fun when I'm playing a game. If not why am I playing? I don't need to enslave some poor bloke who's not having any fun. I'd rather he concede. I'm a free will guy, not a taskmaster.

I agree with the OP that there should be a way to continue on vs AI or in hotseat (vs yourself) if you want to see how something would play out.

Don`t you think you`re taking pixel wars too seriously? This still is a game we all play for fun, and some may loose interest in going on when the going gets tough, hehe.

Most of my opponents are willing to officially quit the challenge, if they know how to do this.
