With the update, the game keeps dying on turn 4...
Elaborate, dying as in crashing or LBJ or Uncle Ho winning the war?!

Got a crashlog? Which side ya'played? Against the PO or another carbon based bi-pedal humanoid?

Played both sides. Each time against the PO. No indication why it crashed - just ended the turn and it goes to desktop...

You might want to open a trouble ticket with the Tech Support Section.

Its kind of strange though, as when I used the previous version, I had no issues at all. Guess I'll revert to the original (as bought) TOAW IV before upgrading again.

Can you verify that you are running the latest public beta patch? I believe it is 4.0.1.22

Sorry for being so obtuse, but how can I make sure that I'm running the latest patch? I think I installed it but cannot find anything to indicate that this is the case...

Again thank you all for your help

HI, I followed the link and manually installed it. But does the game show you somewhere what version you're playing?

The version can be spotted when you hover the mouse over the .exe file ;)

I'm still on WIN7 and hovering over the name of the file doesn't work for me but asking for the properties of the
file does:

Cool Larry. I didn't know that. I always try to catch a glimpse of the version info when I click on "About".

Ok... managed to update to 4.0.1.22 (by deleting the previous version and replacing it with the updated files) and the game hasn't crashed. Am on turn 7 as the allies and its working well.

Installation issues in the past... now for some strategy tips from the pros [:)]

So using the different formations available to the allies is understood. However, what I can't understand is how the VC can trigger the events that give them points. do they activate them through -

a) simply by being in a province?
b) by approaching the urban centres? (within a certain radius?)
c) by possessing more hexes than the Allies?

How can the Allies win victory points (besides the economic aid)? I've destroyed VC units and even NVA divisions but nothing happens. The VC is activating 4 to 6 events per turn, racking up a huge tally rapidly. Many times they are the same provinces over and over again.

BTW when VC units are destroyed, I'm under the impression that they reconstitute on the Trail, right? Or do they reconstitute in the province?

Some info would be appreciated...

Hey there vinnie71 dude. Um....when I play the NVA side I try to convert hexes to my control in the
province(s) I'm in and I use some of my stronger units to capture the province capital(s). And it's
always fun to sneak some arty close to an airbase and destroy some of the planes there and then
disband before he can kill my unit.

And about them reconstituting....um...the game is designed for them to spawn all over the map
so the Allies have to look for them almost everywhere. When I play the Allies I try to convert all
the nexes to my control starting at the beach and moving toward the mountains. I like to keep the
coastal road open and I like cleared areas around my airbases. If you're playing with "no borders"
turned ON then you don't have any borders clues and you have to be proactive and go out there and
hunt them down. Search and destroy.

Thanks for the heads up

But keeping the VC away from the capitals and destroying their forces is not sufficient? I keep having repeated news flashes that a certain province is threatened but actually there is next to nothing... maybe its a VC unit that crosses and recrosses the border...

Re hex conversion, that's what I'm doing. But the internal provinces are another matter. its difficult just to keep tabs on the situation there, though I found out a little way of slowly converting Kontum province with one airmobile brigade. Granted no biggie as there are few attacks. The other provinces are smaller and the spawning of a VC battalion or political seems to be enough to constitute a threat to the status quo...

Those news flashes mean that enemy forces are in that province and need to be hunted down and killed.

Yes indeed, the NVA does't really need to kill anything to win. They can just concentrate on
converting hexes to NVA control if they wanted to. What I like to do as the NVA is sneak across the
Laos border convert one hex and then dash back across the border. That one hex is hard to notice
but is enough to generate a point for the NVA side if your opponent doesn't convert it back to
friendly control. Converting a lot of hexes in one turn is surely noticable.

Problem is that as the Allies one doesn't have enough airmobile forces to find them all out, plus borders or no borders activated, one can only discover it when it is two hexes away [:(]
