Cannot Run Game

Post by pearley »

Hi

I've bought the game today and downloaded it. When I tried to launch the game it prompted me to pick from a list of screen resolutions. I picked full screen but then it came up with an error message and would not launch the game.

I've tried deleting the sc file as suggested in another thread but that didnt work either. I've also tried selecting different screen resolutions when the screen has re-appeared but that didnt help.

I uninstalled and then re-installed the game.

Now I get a message saying :-

You do not have the proper elevated privileges to run the required DLL registration service for this application. Please log in as an Administrator, or right-click the application icon and select 'Run As Administrator' in order to proceed.

I tried that as well but that didn't work either.

Any suggestions ?

I have Strategic Command WW2 with the community pack and that runs fine.

Sorry to hear about the trouble and the easiest way to reset this is to navigate to the following folder and delete the SC2.ini file. This will then result in you being prompted to select a resolution again. I'll also look into why this was not working for you either as it should not list resolutions that are not supported on your system.

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command Classic WWI - The Great War 1914-1918

or

C:\Users\<username>\Documents\My Games\Strategic Command Classic WWI - Breakthrough

so you have tried all this and it doesn't work, best to post your screen res then and then a report, which you may have issues with posting

How to get a DirectX Diagnostic file:

1. click on "START"
2. click "run"
3. type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments rather than pasted into the body of the post.

once the report has been made, just attach it to your post with first adding the file to a zip, which is then permitted to attach to the forum

if so just send bu pm or host in on google share or something so we can take a look, as the site protection is on until you have 10 posts etc i'm sorry to say and welcome to the forum btw and sorry for your issues.

the game has to be installed and run from a admin account, same as all games here, with permissions, have you checked your firewall and or anti virus to see if either have anything game related in the logs?

Hello pearley

We're sorry you have having issues with this game. Its possible this is down to DX7 being uninstalled and then not reinstalling

To make sure you have DX7 (which SCC WW1 needs) is a somewhat convoluted process I'm afraid :

start menu, type in cmd
right click, run as admin
navigate to install folder
eg: type in: cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\Strategic Command Classic WWI"
type in (without quotes) "regsvr32 dx7vb.dll"
should get the message "DllRegisterServer in dx7vb.dll succeeded."

I think you would get a similar issue with the Steam version but the fix is a little simpler, the instructions being:
Right click on game in library, go to properties
local files tab > browse local files
double click "RunFirstTimeSetupDX7.reg"
press yes to allow
run game"

Hi pearley,

If you right click on your shortcut link and click "Open file location" it will take you to where the game is installed to.
You can then select and copy the address bar of the Explorer Window it opened.

Type into Command Prompt, replacing the inside of the quotation with the copied address:
cd "paste your address here"

Hope that helps!

OK

So I go into Run as Administrator and a black box of text appears on screen.

The last line of text says :-

C:\Windows\system32> and then there is a flashing cursor

What do I type from this point ?

I tried copying the address as you suggested and typing in cd "(address)" but it said the address is wrong !

Type in the following exactly as it appears with the quotes:

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\Strategic Command Classic WWI"

Then after you press Enter and it changes to this directory, type in the following:

regsvr32 dx7vb.dll

That should be it,

Hi pearley,

Apologies, you will need to use the following:

cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Matrix Games\Strategic Command Classic WWI\SC2 WWI - The Great War 1914-1918"

Then press Enter and type the command:

regsvr32 dx7vb.dll

Hope this helps!

Sorry, but do you have Steam? If so then can you try redeeming a Steam key for this as it should work within Steam.

We do not normally do refunds. A copy of the refund/return policy can be found below:

OK

I've now redeemed a steam key for this game.
Installed it on steam.
Tried to run it, doesn't work.
Tried the fix as suggested by Benedict151.
Still getting the same error codes, i.e you do not have the required privileges etc.

Like I say, my pc runs SCWW2 with no problems at all.

I have several other Matrix games, no problem.

Lots of games on steam all run with no problem.

I have administrator rights on this pc.

Any more suggestions please?
