Whats Going On With GMAPs these days

Post by butch4343 »

Guys,

Just wondered if anyone noticed that GMAPs has a very limited mapset available for creating overlays these days? The only one I can get to show imagery now is Bing and I notice that its out quite a bit at northen latitudes when overlayed onto CMANO.

Does anyone use an alternative to GMAPs?

Regards

I use GoogleChina mostly, sometimes Bing, but really only for the odd area Google has poor imagery on- the Liancourt rocks, for instance. Otherwise Bing seems really poor when compared with Google, at least to me.

I'm still using GMAP, and I find Google China Satellite Map consistently gives me the sharpest images...

Just checked the website and Github and not a heckuva lot.

I still use it as well. Bing's pretty good for what I need.

Guys,

Doh! why didnt I think of using the China maps!

I had horrible results with Bing when creating overlays that placed the coastlines of Scotland, Iceland Norway ect about 40nm south of their CMNANO positions.

But the China map came up trumps for me though.

Thanks one and all

Is this something above and beyond normal Google Maps?

No, but for me at least, the "normal" Google Maps doesn't load because of a "cache error".

Hi,

Is there any update to GMAP?
I downloaded the archive from their site but there's no application included. I'd like to create some overlays to enhance my scenario.

If someone could post a link to the .exe file, explain a way to get it operational some other way or suggest a replacement, please do so.

Thanks! [:)]

you want baloogans modified gmap:
tm.asp?m=3530108

I used it a few months ago and it works fine. The default map choice didn't work but I think the Bing ones did.
Be careful doing large areas, the files get huge.

Thanks, Whicker.
It works. I can access the maps, and now I will produce overlays.

Google china is also working and several other maps. Topography maps look great.
