10.02 Convoy Weirdness

Post by Taxman66 »

I presume there is some bug in the Egyptian Convoy route with beta patch 10.02.
The UK suddenly stopped receiving MPP from Egypt (and German of course stopped raiding the Egyptian Convoy route)
when 2 white convoy lines showed up from Egypt. One through the Med and one around South Africa.

Is this fixable before I encounter it in my PBEM game?

I can later this evening.

If it matters this game started under v10.0, updated to 10.02 BEFORE the convoy switch over.

Additionally, I'm using a counters and flag mod. I did copy the new scripts over to the mod campaign folder. Maybe there was something else I needed to copy over? Or perhaps wipe the mod campaign folder out and recreate it?

It's entirely possible because it was started with 1.10 and then continued with 1.10.02, the issues that were supposed to be fixed under 1.10.02 have caused this mish mash of convoys effect. I'm just confirming by running a test on my end with a campaign started from 1.10.02 and so far no convoy issues as you've reported.

Apologies as I did find an error I unfortunately introduced with the v1.10.02 Beta package. We updated the Convoy scripts to reflect a few fixes that the GAME ENGINE included, but I forgot to recompile the scripts into the campaigns also included in the v1.10.02 Beta package.

I've fixed this on my end and the easiest way to have this also fixed for the Beta, if starting a new campaign using v1.10.02, is to open the desired campaign in the Editor and then go to Campaign->Edit EVENT scripts and then selecting 'Update *'

Then saving the campaign as a custom campaign with this correction in place and playing the custom version instead of the default.

This will work against the AI, and if you want to try a fresh Beta PBEM++ then both you and your opponent will have to do this with the desired campaign and I think you'll also have to save with the same name as well. For example '1939 Storm over Europe FIXED' or similar.

Does this problem always occur?

If we haven't reached the point of convoy adjustments, could we each update our main campaign (I know, not recommended) and then
continue with the PBEM game?

Can an older version of the convoy script be used to replace the bugged one?

Could the UK player choose not to adjust the convoys, would that work? Kind of a brutal option though.

If none of the above work, then I take it there is no way to fix an ongoing PBEM game?

Lastly, could you give a rough estimate (days or weeks or months) before the official update?
No sense starting a new beta game if the official patch will be coming soon.

Just to clarify, the error v1.10.02 introduced to the default campaigns will only have an effect if you started a new game using the v1.10.02 Beta. We are hoping to have an updated Beta if time permits, but the official update is not likely until after the Christmas holidays.

Hubert,

Can saved games, particularly PBEM games, started with 1.10.02 continue with an updated Beta (if one is forthcoming)?

If we haven't reached the point of convoy adjustments (i.e. prior to Italy joining the war), could we each update our main campaign (I know, not recommended) with your above given instructions and then continue with the PBEM game?

Hi Hubert,

No pressure, but I was really looking forward to playing over my holiday break. [:(]

Forgive me if I may not fully understand the magnitude and/or details of what is needed to fix this, but does this really need a whole Beta update to fix it, or could it be fixed with a less involved and maybe more simple hotfix?

Best regards,

Updated Betas will be compatible with previous Betas and your games can be continued. Unfortunately updating the main campaigns will have no effect on a game in progress. You'll be better off starting a new game with the next Beta.

Choosing to not adjust the convoys is an option, but of course not an ideal strategic option as you've guessed.

There are a few EXE fixes as well and packaging a new Beta update simply ensures all the correct fixes are applied. At the end of the day it is as easy as just downloading and installing the next package over what you currently have.

Hubert,

We decided to start a new game once the next beta or full patch comes out.
I think there are other problems as well. The Polish Corp DE came up when Poland Fell (Axis 3rd turn); but the Polish Corp never did by April 3, 1940 (unless that is randomized and I just got unlucky).

There was an error in the event system (unfortunately introduced when I implemented the speed increases) that I also caught that the next Beta update will correct. Speed increases will be maintained, so no loss of effect there which is the good news [:)]

Do we know how long until we get another Beta? Should we start any new PBEMs with an older beta or the main release or wait for new beta?

I just took a look at the change log and did not see any mention of the "Convoy Weirdness" bug/issue being fixed. [&:]
