Pulsating screen

Post by Courtenay »

I just ran into a bug I have never seen before. I am reasonably certain this was a Microsoft bug, not a MWiF but, because the behavior was so strange that it had to be the operating system screwing up.

After an Air to air combat, where one expects to either see the box that asks which unit to destroy, or to have it stuck behind a window so you can't see it (sigh), MWiF started violently pulsing on my screen. Nothing would affect it, it insisted on going in front of all other programs. Fortunately a small edge of the task monitor was visible when I brought it up, and I was able to kill MWiF.

Has anyone seen anything like this with ANY program? As I said, I have never seen this ever; I suspect it is higly non-repeatable.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

I have had it a couple times. The best way to resolve it is to do a full reboot.

I normally only have a problem if I was doing a bunch of memory intensive things before starting up the game.

Now, I try to make sure I do a reboot before I start the game.

If I get your meaning right, my program does this regularly, especially if I haven't rebooted my computer for a while. It's hard to describe but "violently pulsing" is as good a description as any. Perhaps demonic possession would be another apt description. The game cycles uncontrollably through whatever boxes are open and there's no stopping it. I have to "force close" the program to exorcise the demon.

I use Parallels on a Mac so I've always just chalked it up to that. But, who knows?

I have played on Parallel for Mac and on a Surface Pro and I have never experienced that.

I've seen it happen in a netplay game, due to a problem with unlimited breakdown. The game simply went in a loop with the screen flashing and flashing. But never in an air-to-air combat.

Courtenay, about the hiding A2A combat forms, have you had a chance to try the potential solution mentioned in this thread: tm.asp?m=4400815&mpage=1&#4402121 ?

I'll try it myself if I get the issue but I seem to be much luckier than most...

The only solution I saw in that thread applies to duel monitors. I use a single monitor. There are threads referenced in that thread, that have a new idea that I had not tried before: right clicking on the task bar and cycling through the options.

I will have to give that a try.

Truly that solution needs two monitors. I'll continue to wait for an opportunity to try it.

Yeah the options section beginning with Cascade Windows from the right click on the task bar may well be worth a try.
