Where to get more terrain type options? (New to TOAW)

I am not new to hex/strategy games but new to TOAW, with IV being my first one. Being the scenario making lover I am I immediately learned the editor and dove right in to making a massive and detailed map and OOB for an extended campaign for the Plains Indians War, specifically the Powder River and Yellowstone campaigns.

I am a little disappointed in the limited terrain types available, it seems like they could add a dozen more with very little effort.

I've seen some mods for TOW III that had 3 different types of grasslands, different options for hills and wooded areas for example and options like this are greatly needed.

So my questions are,
A) do any of the TOAW III mods work for IV? Or are the resolutions/quality not good enough to make it worth it (I do prefer the look of IV over III)
B) is there a way for me to create a few new terrain types and add them to my editor palette? (I have GIMP)
C) Is there one already made for IV?

Any advice is greatly appreciated! :)

Which one would you recommend that would most have TOAW IV type resolution?

Btw, I just found all the PNG tile files in the main graphics folder, I could mod a new tile types to match what I want for Western American scenarios (and share on the forum), but I don't know how to add it to the palette in the editor and how to create its movement and supply rules, would you perhaps know how or is there a tutorial somewhere?

So I am still trying to create new terrain types. The links above are cool but they have existing terrains.

Is it possible to add entirely new terrain types? I want another type of open/grassland and I'd like to have mountainous terrain that can be wooded.

Is this possible to do?

'Wilderness' was created for Directive 21, and it worked in III but not in IV, so my guess would be that you can't make new terrains now.

Ah, well that's a shame. I don't understand games going backwards in regard's to moddability, especially for games that essentially survive off the modders.

Rick would have to clarify, I haven't worked on D21 in a while. All I know is that there were issues, so the custom graphics were removed from D21 in order for it to be included in IV.

You could change the appearance of tiles in III, as you still can in IV. You could never create a tile with new characteristics.

There was a thread somewhere in Development about it, but I don't readily see it. I think it was that Rick had changed Dunes to Wilderness for use in Finalnd, changed the look and changed the description in a dll file or something. Whatever the case the map was a mess in IV, so the custom stuff was deleted.
