Rereading Clay Blair's timeless classic Silent Victory. This, and Hitler's U-boat War (Volumes I and II) are a must read for anyone interested in the material.

No new books coming for Christmas [:(] (Sadly Autocourse won't arrive until afterwards). But then again I have a number stacked up to be tackled in the New Year. The SS book is starting to be more of a chore than seemed was likely after the early chapters, and the RAF book is just BIG!

No. Nascar is for tin-tops. Formula 1 - which is a world-wide sport not just European - is the pinnacle of motorsport and the premier category of open cockpit single seater racing.

I have started it. So far, I am in the first chapters that are a prelude of the incoming disaster. The appendices give the OOB at division level between opponents at the date of June 5th 1940. Something you could find more detailed on the net.

Good summary so far. I am enjoying the reading.

Just about finished Floyd Gibbon's The Red Knight of Germany (1927) Not bad for .99cents Nice to see accounts of some the flyers he engaged.

About to start Red Devils over the Yalu: A Chronicle of Soviet Aerial Operations in the Korean War 1950-53 (Helion Studies in Military History) Kindle Edition (I used to play a lot of MiG Alley)

And just about finished Alexander Kent's With All Dispatch, Book 8 of the Bolitho series. (Yes, I like this series much better than Hornblower.)

I took a bit of a break from reading over Christmas, but got back into it in the New Year - and determined to finish off The SS. Alibi of a Nation As indicated previously this is a very interesting book - but the author's style made it a difficult read and following all the characters is not easy.

That said, I learned quite a bit about the relationship between Himmler, Hitler, Heydrich and co. Had Germany won the war in say early 1942 - e.g. Soviets defeated and Britain sues for peace - it is fascinating to consider how things would have played out amongst the individuals competing for power and Hitler's approval. Goering vs Himmler vs Heydrich vs Goebbels - they were like a bunch of kids all turning on each other and plotting with and against each other. And of course there is the role that Hitler had in mind for the SS after the war. Just where would Nazi Germany have gone from victory in Europe and what would this have meant? Fascinating - if scary - stuff.
