USSR and Germany Markers

Post by jboldt007 »

Seasons geetings everyone and thanks for the great forum advice! And now down to business- it seems to
me in most cases Germany will apply markers re: neutrality pact to offense to control the start of Barbarossa and
the USSR to defense to forestall an invasion. When would either side apply markers to the opposite? The only thing I can think of is if Germany decides to totally abandon Barbarossa and the USSR feels they are strong enough to pursue a DOW?

USSR might want to put markers on the offence early to force Germany to send more units to pact area. Some, or all, of those markers may later be shifted to defence. I've seen USSR breaking the pact while Germany being busy in the West and didn't pay attention to the garrison rating.

If that happens then Germany might want to place markers on defence.

Thanks - makes sense. In current game Germany had to pull a couple units out of Garrison duty as France 1940 has got bogged down a little bit by a string of terrible weather. There could be a small window where USSR might put pressure on with some offensive markers.

Align Hungary and put all their units (air and land) within 3 of East Poland. That should help.

Ah - Interesting- didn’t realize one could use an aligned minor’s units for garrisons. I guess in this case this depends on whether Bessarabia is claimed and what Germany wants to do with Rumania....

Also, you can send any SS or MTN units, they garrison double and won't change the balance in France if you replace them for the INF that you were leaving in Poland instead.

Yeah.

I like to use the German MTN, the Rumanian MTN, a Militia, and the AT division for garrison in Poland (5.5 rounded to 6). That prevents Polish partisans and only takes 4 units.

It only counts as 5.5 for garrison against the USSR though.
