Detaching Attached Units from Corps/Army

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

Detaching Attached Units from Corps/Army

Post by GeneralDad »

This is my first post here - my son bought me this game (WitW) for Christmas - awesome game and an incredible achievement of historical research. I stopped playing Civ VI, at least for a while...

My question is how to detach an attached unit from a corps/army. From a division, this is easy, the attached unit has an [x] next to it in the division's command attachment screen. But how to remove attachments from a corps/army? The [x] does not exist in that screen.

If the devs have time, putting a drag and drop interface in for attachments between different levels - group/army/corps/div would be really nice!

Thanks,
GeneralDad

the easiest way is to open the current HQ unit that holds the support unit. Click on the SU and on the lhs you will see its command unit, click on this and a list of all the possible transfer targets comes up.

The ability to transfer to a unit at the same command level (say corps-corps) is relatively short range so you may need to move it back up the command chain and then next turn assign to where you want it.

Alternatives involve using the Commanders Report, you can open support unit (SU) there and then access the same set of command options.

The alternative is to automate the allocation of SUs using command priorities. Check out section 7.8 of the rules for this. Personally I've never really got it to work as I want so tend to stick to the manual process but its an option.
