Direct attack ?

Post by nukkxx5058 »

Hi, Could someone explain why sometimes, when I right click an enemy unit it triggers an immediate attack and sometimes it opens the contextual menu where a I will decide loss tolerance, individual or group attack or even plan an attack. Why sometimes it doesn't open the menu and directly proceeds to the attack ?
Thanks

That's the RBC
10.5.2. retreat Before ComBat (rBC) The first time you order a unit to Attack any particular enemy location in any given Turn, there is a chance that the defenders will retreat before combat. If there is a large difference between the combined Attack Strengths of your current unit when the Attack is ordered and the combined Defense Strengths of the enemy units in the defending location, the computer will check to see if the defending units immediately retreat rather than face your assault.

Check the manual for more details. To avoid the RBC (if you want that) you have to use the planner but avoiding the right click over the enemy unit, that is with a double left click or the P key over it.

RBC sometime is useful to clear your way advance. But if you need Annihilation, just use double left click to open combat planner

I need to do some thinking about RBC and what exactly does it represent in real life. And yes, it probably has some usage. So far I will stick to double-click.
But there's probably nothing to lose for the attacker when obtaining a RBC ? No negative aspect ? So why not using it ? It forces a move forward but after all, it's the goal. I definitely need to do some thinking about it...

The advantage is that it doesn't spend the rounds for the other units as a regular attack do. Although it does leave a "battlefield stamp" (BTS) over that hex.
Disadvantages? not gonna cause much damage and it could cause that you end up chasing the unit in a direction that you originally did not intend, if you get carried away with it.
