HPS - Defending the Reich
Anyone have experience with this game?
Is it worth a buy?
Does it work on Windows 10, or if need be Windows 7?
Does it support higher resolutions - widescreen etc?
Just for some context - I took a look at the bibliography and I share most of the titles, to give an idea of interest.
Is it a good wargame / simulation?

RE: HPS - Defending the Reich
I haven't touched it in years, so I cant say it it'll run on Win10.
But I recall it didn't have a lot of game play. It was very simplistic.

Thanks for replying.
Dunno if I am disappointed or happy to be able to save money.
Was kind of hoping this game was a good operational level wargame.
I am facinated by the air campaign(s) over the Reich and it did look promising judging by the screenshots.
Ok, well I’ll listen [:D]

Did you ever get Matrix Battle of Britain II - Wings of Victory or Grigsby's Bombing the Reich? Only other two I can think of.
RE: HPS - Defending the Reich
Those two games would work
RE: HPS - Defending the Reich
Yes, you could also use the "commander view" in BoB Wings of Victory which II which is a top-down view and manage your squadrons that way. Me thinks it would be very similar to what you get with the HPS title, as it on the simple side. Wings of Victory II get´s alot of love from it´s fans, you have mods and patches at the below SimHQ site:
http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/forums/75/1/battle-of-britain-battle-of-britain-ii
Here´s the commander view:

It´s a A2A title (or was), as a flight simmer you would know who A2A is (one of the best aircraft devs for FSX/P3D).

I was in a similar situation some months ago.

Just saw you already have BoB II on the BoB II forum [:D]
Oh well, my bad! Do share your W10 please, it would be nice for the rest of us...

Sure, I’ll share some screenshots of the settings - tomorrow after work.

RE: HPS - Defending the Reich
Bombing the Reich, I don’t think I can get over the dated engine.
There are some old games that I can still accept, but there is some limit that [:)]
I keep planning for a game of WitW - The Point Blank campaign, but something else keeps getting in the way.
Guess I’ll go have fun with the games I have first before looking elsewhere.
Thanks for helping out,

Hi Red,
Sorry for the delay, but I have posted my settings in the BoB2 Win10 thread.
Nvidia, but it should work for any chipset.

RE: HPS - Defending the Reich
I played Defending The Reich.
It was a good wargame.
It was missing a "something".
A clever person with a great idea could have made it into a fabulous wargame!

I’ve read something online describing the game as a drunken man’s walk - or something like that, not a native speaker.
As describing the flow of the game, where each side leads for a while until the lead is taken over by the other and so on.
Otoh, that seems to be what happened in the actual night campaign, until events on land and during the day started to have their effect.
You can only buy this game in a boxed version, incl shipping and possibly import duty in my case, which makes it only attractive if it is REALLY worth it, which is the reason why I’m interested in your opinion.

That´s the same problems I saw when I was judging if I should buy it or not...
Main problem, shipping and import customs/duty fee, and CD most likely neededs to be on drive in order to play the game.
For that matter I would rather get "Decisive Action", at least all the trouble "might" be worth it.

Um no. Decisive Action plays at three resolutions as I recall, the highest being 1024x768. Plays might be incorrect, the game wont launch unless your desktop resolution is 640x480, 800x600, or 1024x768.
RE: HPS - Defending the Reich
Oh really, that zuks!!!
I don´t get how they still sell (at that price)software that, iether is used with a old PC, or just wont work right, with NO account for support.
I understand things get old, especially with PC´s, but to sell something for €60 which is about how much it would cost you to buy a PC of that age, that would work on par (or maybe not, due to CPU speed) with that software., just dosent make to much sence.
I guess there´s something called "vintage" software with a high price tag now [:D]
Thanks Blond Knight for the heads-up!

RE: HPS - Defending the Reich
Pure complacency, even if you are in a niche market at some point you need to bring up to date developments or people will not accept your premium pricing.
HPS seems to be seriously lagging.
Tiller is now starting, although not at a quick enough pace imho -pricing is relatively high, but at least it is all downloadable, patched and updated..
Matrix also seems to have found a good mix of supporting older games, publishing a new generation of games.
Not only that, but they seem to have have embraced Steam, periodic sales and lower prices in general.
Games do not get better with age even if some people like to fool themselves that they do.

I agree, and JT´s software works great, I had no issues at all with installer´s and games till date. I even have 3 of his Android versions which work great too, and are my "go-to" app´s when waiting somewhere or a bus/train ride [:)]

RE: HPS - Defending the Reich
There is a patch from 2015, so perhaps it should work on Win10
