PBEM: Opening PBEM save by sending to TOAW executable?

Post by Shadrach »

I tried this in a game - assigned the .pbl file to be opened by the TOAW4 executable.

I thought, it should work right. Because of PBEM play, many wargames support this, and makes it easier for helper applications like "PBEM Helper" to directly open a game and load the correct save. Well, back in the day, very few players use PBEM helper these days.

What happened was the game opened, appeared to load the save correctly (yay!), asking me for the password (it was the first turn), showing the replay, then the battle reports - And then promptly exiting to the Main Menu... [&:]

Is this even meant to work, did it work in TOAW3, is it a bug that needs to be fixed?

If it works like it should, a player should be able to just double-click the save game and the game would load it up. Apparently the game does support loading the file as a parameter, but it fails somewhere along the line.

EDIT: the same happens with regular save games, so it's not just PBEM. But this would of course be most useful when loading PBEM saves.

I've opened a ticket to support about this issue, but apparently they would rather have the developer reply directly on the forums, which is kind of weird but ok.

I reported this as a problemo about a year ago on the development board but so far other things have a higher priority
I guess.
Does the CIA still do wet work, from time to time, depending on the National Security threat say......?
