Some very odd, but pleasing, night battles this turn against IJN DDs. Lowpe sends in the small TFs, one of 5 DD to Singkep, but this decides not to engage an AM sent to minesweeper here. Interesting.
Then, 3 DD are sent to Palembang to raid the am-hubs in port. One DD stands in their way; Isis.
The first battle is over without a shot fired again. Then things get interesting. Outnumbered and outgunned, commander C.S.B Swinley using his maneuverability and lands one decisive shot on the bridge of DD Minegumo. Not sure what effect this has on the capabilities of the ship in later battles, but it seems that she didn't really play a part in subsequent battles and had a raging fire going throughout.
The next encounter sees Isis land two shots on DD Ayanami, again without taking a hit.
Next, Isis devastates the older, smaller DD Mikazuki with 29 hits, sinking her outright. Another single 4.7" shell lands on Minegumo, pushing her fires to 'heavy.' Again, the IJN cannot land a return shot.
Finally in the last battle of the night, Isis puts 29 hits onto DD Ayanami, sinking her, and three more on inegumo, putting her into danger with 'heavy fires, heavy damage.' This time Isis takes five hits from the beleaguered Japanese, leaving her with moderate damage, but no active fires after the turn. She'll head to a victory celebration and repair at Singers next turn.
In other news our troops begin to land at Port Dickson after bombardments further weakened IJA units there. I'll suspend unloading and let the ones on the ground attack tomorrow in case there is a reaction by LBA or the KB.
Allied troops finally take Djambi as part of the 4th division is there and I didn't want them to be flown back to combine again with the element at Malacca. They retreat back to the North out of harm's way. I'll let them sit there and wither slowly. [:)]
At Heiho another DA gets forts to 3 but only a 1:2 adjustment. I bet the next will be even or positive though, and then it'll be a steady road to annihilation of these IJA forces.
