My first install was on the HD partition of the hybrid drive. Had the same problem but some kind of fix, can't remember what, made it better. Now it is installed on an SSD external drive. Will have a look at the link. Thanks!

Let's hope so; it should do the trick; unless something is running in the background I am not aware of. Worst case, you got to get an AMD quad-core 1.9GHz with 4GB laptop from the scrapyard to make it work ;)

Nah, didn't work either. Neither Win7 compatability and/or running as admin. I really wanted to like this game, but as it is it is unplayable.

Maybe try a "traditional" install, that is to the default location. The last time I installed in a different folder (still at C) and got some issues.

1920*1200 external and switching to laptop internal 1920*1080 makes no difference.
Have added (as per another thread) to ini-file:
ChangeScreenResolution=Y
ScreenY=1200
ScreenX=1920

No improvement after that either.

Also, TOAW III ran just fine on this laptop.

I'll try reinstalling like that if nothing else works.

At last it is solved :)
Installing in default C partition was the solution. Reason I didn't install there was lack of space. Luckily TOAW doesn't take up much space.

Good to hear [:D]
Strange though, I always install game on another drive, rarely have these kinds of issues.
The drive is SSD though, which is kind of important these days.

Now it is only the matter of the CTD when scrolling the combat report that troubles me. Hopefully in next patch.

Why the (C)rash (T)o (D)esktop? What about your page file? Space left on the main partition?

What is a page file? I have 15 GB left, so not an issue itself - have heard that it is good to leave about 20% of partition free to speed up use of the drive.
The CTD (mentioned in other threads) is when I click - hold - drag in the combat report window scroll bar. Immediate CTD.

Cool. See, I told you... I tried the install on a different C folder and i couldn't get the Huge icon in the unit panel. Something funny is going on there.

I've never tried that, just did and... crash. You can use the scroll wheel if you have one.
And actually comes handy for quick exiting the game [:D]

I do have a scroll wheel, but it is a bit wonky and drives me crazy sometimes. And I just do want accidently to crash the game without having saved. By the way, does the game have an autosave function?

It does, but I think it saves at the beginning of your turn. So a crash would mean losing all the work you have done on that current turn.
