Land Air Recon

Post by nukkxx5058 »

I cannot see how/if I can perform air recon, like I can do in WITE ?
Couldn't find in the manual (just air recon on sea hexes but haven't try yet naval warfare)
Any explanation ?
thx

Now, go to Tutorial '41. You got two airfields. One 'Staffel' has recon capabilities; you can't select a recon mission per-se, but... flying from one friendly airfield to another does (depends on the weather, time of day) have a chance to reveal enemy units underneath its flight-path.

Recon is not done by individual units. It's done on a theater wide basis whose degree of success is set by the scenario designer as a percentage. The recon level can be changed via the Event engine.

16.6. The Situation Briefing
§§ The Theater pane lists your Force’s
Reconnaissance and Transport Capacities. It
also (Expanded Mode only) lists the following
Theater Parameters: Rail Destruction
Chance, Auto Rail Repair Chance, Guerrilla
Percentage, Friendly Air Shock Level, Enemy
Air Shock Level, Friendly Shock Level, and
Enemy Shock Level.

That seems to be the case ...yes. Vital to be familiar with the scenario notes as in longer scenarios especially as recon varies hugely at different points. As an example Recon level of 0% at the start for the Italian Axis jumps to 35% as Rommel arrives in 1941 in the Campaign for North Africa I am playing v Warspite.

As the Axis player I can see very little of CW forces beyond what my land troops can see directly til that happens.....The system works well in my opinion.

The airfield-to-airfield overflight reece still works in TOAW III, as well as in TOAW IV. It will be yet again a subject I shall cover in the Tutorial '50s series soon...

It is a combination of the recon level set by the designer plus this

9.1.5. IntellIGenCe Gathering

Reconnaissance Assets
§ Units – All of your units have the ability
to detect, and in some cases evaluate, the
strengths of enemy units in nearby locations

.../...

Generally, units and Internal Security assets
can only observe adjacent locations. If, however,
the unit or Internal Security asset is observing
from a location with a mountain peak, observation
visibility can be as far as 40 kilometers. This
mountain view advantage deteriorates with
decreasing visibility and during night turns. Note
that the mountain peak reconnaissance is received
dynamically: If the peak is entered during a player-
turn, the reconnaissance occurs immediately. You
don’t have to wait for the inter-turn calculations.

The ultra stealth Pottsylvanian spy craft will find you no matter where you hide your dirty little army. No stinkin mountain needed.
