CSME2: Sorry but locking up (Solved its the AV)

Post by BeirutDude »

Sorry guys but every time I try to sort scenarios by date the program locks up. I rebooted the computer and had nothing else running the last time I tried. Sorry... [8|]

I don't observe the problem in the current official CSME 2.0 install.

Sometimes an errant .scn file will give the frontend sorting feature the fits. Is it possible you have a rogue .scn file -- one with a mangled, non-standard date -- in the scenarios folder?

Note that if you do the standard uninstall, bits and pieces of the install -- save files, custom-made scenarios, etc. -- will be left in place. If you subsequently re-install in the same location, you will mix the new stuff with the older remnant bits and pieces. (So after the standard uninstall, you should go into Windows Explorer and manually delete any leftovers.)

Just a theory what might be happening here.

Yeah. Sounds like your install is somehow borked. After the uninstall, double check and manually remove any flotsam before attempting the re-install.

No Joy.

I COMPLETELY removed the original install and deleted all the directories.

Try this, BeirutDude: Immediately as the lock-up happens, zip up and post here the logs/frontend.log file. Maybe it will reveal something. If not, there are other things we can try.

Also, after launching the frontend, and without changing the sort order, are you able at least to scroll through the scenario list, pick a scenario, and launch the game?

For now, one other also ([8|]): Bypassing the Middle East.exe frontend entirely, are you at least able to launch the meengine.exe from within Windows Explorer? You can select scenarios in the game engine by means of File > New. (Make sure you look in the scenarios folder for any .scn files.) Not as good as using the frontend, it's a kludgey work-around yes, but at least you can play the game until we can figure out what's wrong with your frontend ops.

Berto, thanks for your help, this is very frustrating...

1. Zipping can't do it because WINZIP locks the Zips for the log files and I can't upload.
2. On just starting a scenario no and BTW I am now on my second Laptop trying!!!!! First was a dell and this is an HP and it won't run on either! And painfull so in doing the little it will do on either machine.
3. MEengine no, sorry it's not doing anything on the HP.

But on the Dell you are able to launch meengine.exe and, using File > New, launch scenarios from within the game engine?

In order to debug the frontend issue(s) further, you will have to find some way to zip them up and make them available to us. Even sending them as email attachment would work.

Kamerad Gatorland

Can you dump your DxDiag here by any chance? I did encounter similar issues like you described here; but I at the end solved them.

So, please do not resign, ja?

ORIGINAL: berto

@BeirutDude, try the following:

[*]Make a backup copy of your CSME scenarios folder.
[*]In the original scenarios folder, delete all SCN files except for the first ten AIW*.scn files. That is, retain only AIW1.scn through AIW10.scn.
[*]Launch Middle East.exe, go to the Scenario Select screen, attempt to start one of those ten scenarios, AIW7.scn say.

Success? Failure?

I tried on the HP earlier today but the WinZip would only zip them encrypted (with a lock on them) and the Matrix site would not let them upload. I tried three times to zip them. Was about to try on the ACER right now. Stand by...

Sorry they WILL NOT zip with WinZip on either computer! Almost seems like something is trying to write to them even though I shut down the main program with the Task Master Program. Again I tried three times, when I go in the LOG folder it locks up winZip and if I try to zip the entire folder it denies access.
