Nukes, those are the Sort By options to Scenario list, above them. Sometimes you might want to look for a certain size game, select Complexity, another time per Scenario Title, select Title, and so forth.

When in doubt, ask the Kraut... the 'pesky' radar buttons as you call them... they just sort the scenarios... In your case, you sorted them alphabetically...

If you click on complexity for example... they're sorted in order of... well, complexity from 1 to only Merkel/Marcon knows :D
