Can't get this game started

Post by Romeoman »

After downloading all three versions and decompressing each of them without problems, I just can't get it started. As soon as I try to run it I get an error message that says:
"The instruction at 0040114f referanced memory at 004002ce. The memory could not be written."
The computer I use is a 550 Mhz PentiumIII with 128 MB RAM, and NVIDIA RIVA TNT2 Model 64 graphics card. The OS is W98, swedish version.
Am I the only one to have this problem? If not what could be the solution? Please help me with this, I've waited so long for this game to come into being...

You might want to try starting with the mech.exe file as the start file for your shortcut. Is that what it is now?...WB

I try to run the mech.exe but nothing happens. As I run it, the computer "stops and thinks" for a moment then... nothing. I tried to run it from the DOS prompt and still nothing happens: it's like trying to run an empty batch file...

You have to start form start.bat and it has to find the vid998 file or it won't run.

Well I think there is something wrong with the intro.exe. To test it, I copied the intro.exe, smackw32.dll and vid998.smk into one catalog and typed "intro vid998.smk". Exactly the same error message as stated in the fist article of this thread appeared. Is there any way to start the game without using intro.exe?
