Paratroops

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Paratroops

Post by ivanov »

Is it possible to drop paras on the enemy occupied hex? I've been trying to drop them on Malta, after weakening the AA unit that is stationed there, but it seems the para drop is not possible.

OK, thanks. So in general, the para units can't land and try to fight ( with penalties ) on a hex, which is occupied by the enemy unit?

That's right, they can land in an adjacent hex though, and then attack the unit. But of course with Malta there is only one hex so its defenders need to be destroyed before the paras can land.

What you need to do is put all your bombers with some HQs in Sicily. Blockade Malta with sub etc and hit the city with your Battleships then Bomb.. It will take 2 3 turns tops to take Malta if weather holds.

Hi Ivanov,

One more thing: if you are playing with the Fog of War feature turned on (and it's truly the only realistic way to play), then the game engine WILL allow you to try to drop onto a hex containing an enemy unit if the unit's presence is concealed by the FOW.

This is a bad thing to happen to your paratroopers. The game engine treats it like an Ambush--your paratrooper unit will take heavy casualties and automatically be bumped to an adjacent, empty, land hex--if one is available. And, as Bill R. pointed out, since there ARE no adjacent land hexes to Malta, in that case the paratrooper unit will be completely destroyed. Think Arnhem or Maleme. A nice simulation of the value of good intel.

Not that this has ever happened to me, you understand...[:D]

Yes, I was assuming that it would happen. It would be nice however, if the paras had a possibility to contest the hex and some chances of success against a weakened enemy.
