The Sun Also Rises ( D21 )
I discovered that the Objectives for D21 don't extend to Berlin at all and that only
a short game is possible. No problem, so I'm going to restart and play it again.
I've been keeping up with the AAR's about D21 and I'm impressed and I'm going to try
some of that myself. With special attention to the railroad engieers and their
progress.
EDIT: Turns out that I was looking at only one track and there are other tracks used
by Elmer for the different periods of the game. So there are in fact tracks that go
to Berlin.

I read somewhere that humans eat more bananas than monkeys and I believe it's true because I don't remember the last time I ate a monkey.

RE: The Sun Also Rises ( D21 )
Here's the dispositions at the start of the game and I've labeled some of the local
objectives I'm going to try for. Last game I didn't concentrate on Moscow to the
exclusion of everything else and this time I want to do a broad-front approach to get
all the important objectives with Stalingrad as the last one and then retreat back to
good supply and defend for the rest of the war at Smolensk and Moscow and Leningrad.

Hey Larry. I am not sure what you mean that the objectives do not extend to Berlin. They do. There are different objective tracks for various stages of the campaign and for the Soviets Track 3 is the final path for the Soviets. I also have a slightly updated version correcting more stuff that I will email you a little later if you want to use that version.
Thanks.
RE: The Sun Also Rises ( D21 )
D21 uses all 5 Objective Tracks for the Soviet PO. Depending on the situation any one of the 5 might be active, and all 5 have different Objective Lines. If you switch to the Soviet side you can change the Objective Tracks thru Elmer Assist and see how they are all set up.I discovered that the Objectives for D21 don't extend to Berlin at all and that only a short game is possible.

The 303.HArKo arty unit doesn't seem to have any arty tubes in it's organization.
Which is sort of strange since there's lots of 150mm guns on hand still. I'll have
to check again in T2 to see if replacements are flowing properly.

Yeah, I DO want to use the updated version. I'll wait for it. And about the tracks:ORIGINAL: TPOOHey Larry. I am not sure what you mean that the objectives do not extend to Berlin.ORIGINAL: larryfulkerson

Yeah, Steve explained a little bit of it ( below ) and it makes sense and I just didn't
know about the events that handle the track(s) switch(ing). The last game I was playing
was an anomoly anyway.
And the track being used is handled by events....I get it now. Cool, great designORIGINAL: sPzAbt653D21 uses all 5 Objective Tracks for the Soviet PO. Depending on the situationI discovered that the Objectives for D21 don't extend to Berlin at all

for this bad boy. I had no idea. Maybe a short note in the scenario briefing
explaining this might be useful to the player. Thanks for the info.

This image didn't shed as much light as I had hoped. The idea is to follow the roads and rails up to Riga by the most
direct route. I just now thought of the 'Y' key to zoom the map to a custom size. I'll try that.

Here's a custom zoom picture that shows the proposed rail route that I'm planning. I'm planning on running a unit along
it all the way up just to convert the rail hexes.

Okay, I've moved everybody for the first combat round and I'm ready to pull the
trigger. As you can see I've scheduled quite a few airfield strikes and the air
shock difference is large so I'm expecting good results.

I've dropped some paratroopers on the likely path of retreating Soviet units so as to
try to stem or slow the flow of Soviets getting away from my onslaught. There's no
good way to catch all of them but those I DO catch I can kill.

I forgot to show you the results of the airfield strikes. Pretty good results I'd say.
I need to do some more airfield strikes to get the rest of the aiarplanes so that he's
got none left, that's the goal.

The RR engrs are making progress. They are embarked and moving along the rail
as far as they can go for now. I need to clear out some enemy units to move further
north.

The RR engrs headed toward Minsk are bogged down in enemy resistance and it's going
to be a while before any progress will be made here.

The RR engrs headed for Kiev are stymied too. Too many enemy units in the way still.

RE: The Sun Also Rises ( D21 )
I've been moving units and this is the start of the third combat round for this turn
and the air losses meter says I've shot down 2263 planes and I'm thinking maybe half
that would be more like it. My losses on the other hand, are relatively light. This
is a view from the middle and shows how the Soviet lines have collapsed and Axis units
are streaming in toward the middle to isolate and surround the remnants. It looks like
a lot of these Soviet units might be able to get away still.

This is a light assault team making their way up the street while under sniper fire
in Augustov one early morning. Fighting has been going on on other streets nearby
and some structures are on fire. The Germans are pressing rather hard trying to make
up some time in the schedule.

Elements of the 18th Motorized Division enter Grodno headed northeast. It's late
afternoon and they have been driving since early that morning while it was still
dark and they need to pull over and refuel their vehicles and check the oil and
wipe the headlights clean because it's going to be dark in an hour or so. There
was a light rain shower only half an hour before this image was taken and the skies
look like they are going to let loose again soon.

This is one of the airfields near Kraunas that has just now been overrun and it
appears that the Luftwaffe has been here already judging from the condition of
this I-16 and the biplane I-153 bis in the background. Axis engineers are already
making preparations for the Axis taking over the field. Buildings have to be
converted to repair shops and pits need to be dug for the AA guns and of course
the runway will have to be repaired from all the craters bombs have left. It's
going to take a couple of days using heavy equipment and a regiment of engineers.

Here's a shot of the 6th Panzer division near Skadville headed north with the
eventual goal of Riga. They have located a rather significant Soviet tank
division blocking the road up ahead. The Axis doesn't need the road all that
much, it's really about rounding up the Soviet unit. I've got the Panzers doing
the job of clearing the road instead of the follow on forces because it's a tank
unit and they are typically hard to budge with infantry. I've got some AT gun
units on their way but this will conclude before they arrive.
