Good evening my dear old thing,

Nordic 1

It's safe to say Germany will be doing a land. I'll DoW Belgium and see how they set up. I think I will probably drop an O-chit on Rundstedt to knock the old grenouilles about a bit and get into their lines while the weather is good.

Have you decided on the Italians?
warspite1

Yes, Land with the Italians but no declaration of war. I am going to continue moving to the Egyptian border with a continued view to bringing in Italy asap.

Having a Basil Fawlty moment were we?

Oh yes, and don't mention the war. Particularly as we aren't doing that well at it!

What's that famous old saying of Norman Schwarzkopf?

Going to war without AllenK and warspite1 is like going deer hunting without your accordion. You just leave a lot of useless noisy baggage behind.

With Darkest Hour the film of the moment (must go and see it), I’ve adopted the Churchillian strategy. “Success is the ability to go from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.” By my reckoning we are implementing this near perfectly and therefore well on the way to our eventual triumph.

“What’s that Dr, time for a sedative?” Oh well, must go.

Wonderful film.

As for our limited wargaming abilities, I too take advice from Sir Winston:

Just keep buggering on!

You want Winston quotes? https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Winston_Churchill
Some of his well known quotes are disputed, including "Success consists of going from failure to failure without loss of enthusiasm".

Just proves the point [8D].

Perhaps one of his quotes that is allowed sums this up.

'I am reminded of the professor who, in his declining hours, was asked by his devoted pupils for his final counsel. He replied, "Verify your quotations."'

Evening old chap,

Hope you are okay with the no planes decision.

In the rain, all it would have done is reduce the fractional odds roll, rather than an odds column. It didn't seem worth the potential losses.

While I'm in revisionist mode, here's the citation for how the 'England expects' quote came to be.

Not that Wikipedia is always 100% true.[;)]

Good morning old chap. Turning to the debacle that is game 4, what do you think it best to do?

We can pull back to the line Calais-Reims - albeit there is not much to actually form a line with - and pray, or we can maintain station and sort of, well pray harder....

I'm of the opinion we should pull back. There is no point inviting the Germans to take the resource hex east of Rouen (either next turn if they get the initiative (and they have a +2) or this turn if they decide to reorganise).

At the end of the day they have two offensive chits and so they are going to blow the French away regardless but the former is the best option I think.

If so then the French will do a land. No orders for anyone ahead of land movement.

Haven’t looked at the map yet but my initial thoughts were pulling back as suggested.

That may well be the plan in at least one of the games.

Game 3/Nordic 1

After the debacle last impulse, about the only thing to do is throw another O-chit and have a go at the CW stack in open ground. It's about the best attack available and always useful to kill off CW units. The logic is waiting for good weather will only allow the Allies to grow stronger and the odds won't be any better if we do.
