My Light Titan.

Post by TLG »

Hello.. I've played ToS on and off for a year or so. I just recently discovered the forum, after some time spent away from the game.. I happen to like the light titan class.. It is the class I've most wrestled with, so to speak, and it is the class I duel in.. I havn't played online, only against the computer.. But, with my most recent designs, against equally skilled (in terms of %) AI, I have had great, rather one-sided, success with a few varied layouts.. My most current layout, and favorite, as of this time, is this:

Titan Name: <X - Breaker> (Light Medium Range Titan)
Chassis: Morola L2
----------------------------------------------------------------------

[LA ] S.R.M. 4 RACK (024) [1]

Armor:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Loc/Internal/Armor/Points/mm

[Head] (11) Dullaroy 017 [025mm]
[RT ] (19) Dullaroy 028 [041mm]
[CT ] (19) Vicenium 028 [047mm]
[CBT ] (13) Vicenium 028 [047mm]
[LT ] (19) Dullaroy 028 [041mm]

[LL ] (15) Vicenium 028 [047mm]

Armorindex: 6.14 [Total APts/T]
Internal: 158 [APts]
External: 272 [APts] Max:[065mm]
Total Armor: 430 [APts]

JOCK requirements:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Piloting: skill on Light Titan
Weapons : N.G.M Cannon
Warfare : Scanner
Skills : Medical Ind.Fire

-----------
This Mech can ambush very well, given a crouched position in a wooded area.. It has the ability (if all weapons hit, and missiles do max damage) of dealing out 40 damage (12, 12, 8, 8), with a rather quick reload time for another missile salvo.. The heatsinks can easily keep the mech in the black, all the time, if it is not mobile, and keep things black/green, for charges and various other maneuvers... It throws out a fantastic punch, for its size, and has rather decent armor, given the weight. I've found that with ac7's instead of 12's, the ammo would only be half-depleted by the end of the battle, and while the ac7 mech made up for the lack of punch, to a degree, with more armor, I feel that this rather fierce bite for the size coupled with the scatter damage of missiles is one mean customer.. So, I offer this design up for review, to any willing...

My Other Light Titan.

Post by TLG »

This is its brother, sporting a heavier coat, but lacking the resounding bite.. Though, range, and the more plentiful shell count definately have their plusses.. I would say that I enjoy both equally.. The former, for fights in which I know I face equal opposition, and the latter for times when I would be more keen to count on wanting those extra shells. It is a toss up, in ways.
But, enough talk about the titan, for specs of the titan itself.. I bring you, StompBot:

Titan Name: <StompBot> (Light Medium Range Titan)
Chassis: Morola L2
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This titan also has its scanning delay very nicely coupled with the ac7 reload time.. Again, feel free to comment or critique, or even steal, emulation being a nice form of compliment... Cheers.

Well, they look like refits of the Leopard, trading defensive systems for armor ;-)

Pretty thick armour coupled with sub-par life support and a rather low-powered heat reg. Also no shield and no DCS.

I sense a certain susceptibility to neutron blasters and meson guns. Also, Napalm Missiles might work pretty well if applied in generous amounts.

Just an observation. Against a titan that lacks "special effect" weapons it might be pretty effective.

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

They look a little weak in heat-reg, if you ask me -- though, having no heatreg in the LT/RT gives you enough room for decent armor. I'll pit my Razor (2 nm7 2 srm4) against it any day, 'specially in Hell. :) You might wanna experiment with replacing a lot of that Dullaroy with Vicenium, especially in the legs and CBT, you'll get more armor for the pound and better heat dissipation to boot.

I'd also want a shield 1 in there, if you run into an Icelord (or my improved version, Frostbite), since they can deal as much damage as you but with no worry of ammo.

If you want, you could try replacing the srm4's with some combination of light meson guns, ac4's or machine guns, so the jock won't need to worry about rocket skills.

That said, they seem playable. Guns and rockets combine well. I know my Panther, which is a bit like an upsized version of the Leopard (2 ac12, 2 srm8) is one of my all-time favorite mediums.

I'm not superbly happy with the layout of StompBot.. It does the task decently well, but it has felt like a less solid design when paired against Breaker.. One would do well to run a cyborg in either, and, yes NM missiles can be a problem, especially with StompBot... Half of his losses were due to NM equipped bots, the other half, almost exclusively, being team games with a friendly computer AI in which the AI teammate marches to a different tune, somewhere on the far side of the map from where the enemies are, unfortunately... The one caveat with breaker is that it will be dishing out very decent damage, if thrown against a light, so the NM missiles might not have full time to raise the heat levels... I like Breaker, StompBot could use tweaking.. Oh, and Coyote27, I've never played online games, but I'd be up for one.. I'm on v1.4, send me a PM if interested. I'd be interested in seeing Breaker vs Razor, or any sort of combination, for fun..

If you're interesting in online games, you should get ICQ. There's plenty of people willing to fight a battle or two. :)

A glimpse of what's beyond
Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
And we are entertained

Hi I like your Breaker titan

Dont worry about the lack of electronics - this is a light not a heavy. You have to make sacrifices for a decent damage output.
Remeber all titans have armor but only some have a Meson/Napalm/NB's.

I have a similar titan but with AC4's instead of the SRM's.

You can improve the armor slightly in Breaker by making sure that your Vicenium armor is in multiples of 5mm. At a quick glance I could add 5 or more AP's to that titan for the same weight.

One suggestion for Stormbot . Drop the Dullaroy in the legs and upgrade the chassis to L3. With the extra slot in the leg you can re-armor in Vicenium have easily have the same protection.
Also you mech will be faster have more internal structure and be 0.2c cooler a second. All for the same weight!

Also I'd lower the protection in the CBT by half (and in Vicenium) I like 15 for a light. With the weight saving you can increase you LS if you like. I don;t think you need to protect the engine so much in a not often hit location. But you might play different from me.

Yes, but once upon a time an Iceman made a Raven.
