Bomber Load Outs

For city bombing (specifically Liberators) which is better: 8 x 1000 lb or 16 x 500 lb?. In general for other heavy bombers are 1000 pounders better?

As with Searry's response really depends on your target.

If its hard or needs precise hits then fewer bigger bombs are the choice (eg U-boat pens or the V2 production). If its soft like manpower then more bombs are good. So the Lancasters basically have a load out for population bombing (incendaries etc) and a load out for factories.

I tend to use 8 AAF for factories so would tend to the fewer and heavier bomb load.
