WW2 Italian Campaign MP advice
WW2 Italian Campaign MP advice
Hi all
With my Campaign for N.Africa game with Warspite cracking along and being hugely enjoyable I am looking to follow this up as the Axis in Sicily/Italy (assuming I can find a willing Allied opponent).
Can anyone who is familiar with them recommend which of the available scenarios included in the game is the best balanced and structured in their view? I am happy with longer scenarios but also happy with shorter ones.
I was thinking of the Italian Campaign 1943-45 or Bitter Victory Sicilian Campaign followed by the Italian Campaign. Does anyone have any views...?
Thanks in advance
Ian

RE: WW2 Italian Campaign MP advice
From Sicily to Brenner Pass I'd recommend; there you got Sicily (obviously) and then the way up the boot.ORIGINAL: devoncop

P.S.: Back in the TOAW IV days, I did PBEM playtest it against the designer; was fun!
RE: WW2 Italian Campaign MP advice
Thanks Oberst.
Will check it out.
Will check it out.

If you go with Sicily to Brenner Pass, you might want to check this out. A couple of us put some efforts into bringing this one up to later versions of the game.

RE: WW2 Italian Campaign MP advice
Thanks for that.
Can I confirm for a PBEM++ game (scenario without the "A") suffix this is the one included in the game or do I need to do something "techy" to mod the stock scenario........as a hint I am a PC neanderthal so if it involves a manual mod it is likely a no go

Oh dear, it is a separate file that needs to be added, so nevermind [:(]I am a PC neanderthal
RE: WW2 Italian Campaign MP advice
Below are the file installation instructions, so that you can decide if you want to try it or not.
File Installation
Note that you MUST work within 'Documents/My Games/The Operational Art of War IV'. If you attempt to work within 'Program Files/...', installation will not function properly.
Place the scenario file [the file with the .sce extension] and any document type file [if one is included] in the Scenario Folder of your choice.
If the zipped file contains a folder with the scenario name, go to 'The Operational Art of War IV' directory and place it in the 'Graphics Override' folder.
If the zipped file contains files in addition to the scenario and text files, go to 'The Operational Art of War IV' directory and open the 'Graphics Override' folder. Create a new folder called 'Name of Scenario' [must read EXACTLY as the Scenario Name]. Place the additional files into the folder you just created.
If the zipped file contains a 'Graphics' folder, go to 'The Operational Art of War IV' directory and open the 'Graphics Override' folder. Create a new folder called 'Name of Scenario' [must read EXACTLY as the Scenario Name]. Place the contents of the 'Graphics' folder into the folder you just created.
Please remember, you MUST work within 'Documents/My Games/The Operational Art of War IV', NOT within 'Program Files/...' in order for these additions/changes to function properly.

Such is my life [&:]
Thanks anyway. I am looking at the stock version but obviously if there are huge problems with it I don't want to pitch into such a monster scenario and find it doesn't work well 200 turns in !
I have to say is LOOKS great but more investigation needed maybe.

Which stock version we're talking about? And, you want to play against the AI or PBEM? If Steve points out to me where I can find the AI version (AI for the Allies or Axis?!), I will have a look at it. After all, always had a jolly good time in blighty...ORIGINAL: devoncop

Hi Oberst
I am looking at playing PBEM++ ideally. The scenario I am looking at is Sicily to Brenner Pass 43-45 by Quisling in the Med WW2 folder.I
Cheers

because I never bumped into a devious copper while living/working in the Home Counties (in fact, one of my boozin' mates was from the Mets!), I will get the scenario improved by Steve, dump it into my folders and show you a screenshot how you, as a non-computer nerd, you can play it
Oh, in case I pop up in Exeter... find a boozer who got some good nosh and reasonable prices for a pint of Guinness down there, eh?

1st, get the .ZIP from the link Steve mentioned. Now, you unzip the folder (see screenshot) into \Documents\My Games\The Operational Art of War IV\Graphics Override.

Hi devoncop - I'm up for a game if you fancy it! [:)]
P.S I don't really understand all that sloblocks above, but if someone can point me in the right direction and if you want a game then count me in.

I didn't mean to imply that at all, the original is ok, the update is a little more ok'er [:)]... obviously if there are huge problems with it ...
If you really want to enjoy all that TOAW has to offer, you should, if possible, devote a little time to getting a grasp of the files, where they are and how to get them there. Relying on official releases gets you less bang for your buck. There are plenty folks here that will help you.

No I never suggested you were - hence I used the comedy term sloblocks (of A Bit of Fry and Laurie fame [:)]).

All computery language is sloblocks to me because I don't understand it - but am willing to take any assistance I can get to play this fine game.
