Bombing airbases badly

Post by coolts »

In WitE you can destroy hundreds of planes on the ground in a few attacks. In WitW, my raids take out....3. That's 50 Level bombers each raid. What am I doing wrong? I might as well be dropping tins of beans for the damage I'm doing.

Because it's 1943 and people aren't stupid anymore?

Also, I've wiped out entire LW bases before, I have about German 200 planes registered as "Destroyed on the ground" in my current 43'-45' campaign.

The key is to have great recon, preferably in the turn before, but having it in the first few days of the current air phase works too (so recon on days 1,2,3,4, and bomb on days 5,6,7.

Then, you want a very large number of heavy bombers coming in at low altitude. 200 Tactical Bombers at 2-5000 feet after perfect recon can erase an air base. And I mean that literally. I've had raids which cancel as soon as they reach the target on Day 7, because every man, AA gun, and plane is destroyed already, and they have nothing to bomb.

I'll try that. I've had recon running 7 days, for 3 turns. I'm using level bombers at 18,000 feet. Last time I tried low level fighter bombers to attack airbases (in torch scenario) the Luftwaffe came out to play and my losses were huge, hence using level bombers at higher alt.

Can you send me as screenshot of your ad settings? I tried your suggestion re:recon and destroyed 9 planes [&:]I’m doing something wrong. Tried fighter bombers and level bombers.

Air base recon has a short life as it can get obsolete by enemy rebasing in following turn. I'd say the best way of doing this is to recon them on d1-d2 of air execution and bomb on following days of the same air exec.

Air recon data during the air planning gives you an idea how it was after the last recon/attack.

It is hard to bomb German air bases in the the Torch as LW still is very strong, especially when WA presence is limited by very distant air bases.
