Possible military acronym

Post by AngelHeart »

Hail.

On the map, under the aircraft carrier, there is written "CAV" in orange color.
What is it about?

Thanks.

CAV = Cavitation when the Underwater Sensor range circles at activated. A propeller rotating in water at a certain speed will create gas bubbles along the edges. These then collapse making a lot of noise with the result that the cavitating vessel can be more easily detected by passive sonar.

The tendency to cavitate can be mitigated by prop depth, design and speed of rotation. As a rule cavitating is a bad thing in any situation where acoustic sensors are in play.

The F2 window provides the speed at which cavitation starts at any given speed and depth as this varies with the platform.

CAV means cavalry which means your sub has mounted a horse and gains the ability to make joust attacks.

well actually it means you're generating bubbles ^ and you're extremely easy to hear. try slowing down, or going deeper, or both.
