Operation Typhoon 1941 General Patton Axis me Soviets

Post by larryfulkerson »

General Patton ( Brian ) and I are playing Operation Typhoon 1941 but I have modded
the Axis HQ units to all have 55 RR repair squads instead of 2 so they can experence
the sensation of repair rail and I'm playing the Soviets and Brian is the Axis.
It's turn one and this is the initial setup. Moscow is in the upper right and the
blue units are pressing east. I've got to decide whether to defend forward or not.
I favor defending forward but there's a lot to be said about just pulling everybody
back in a mad head-long rush to get to the final destinations before the Axis arrives
and just wait for them to arrive. I'd rather do a fighting withdrawl to the Moscow
area. I expect the expected reinforcements will man the fighting positions around
the city itself.

Having said all that I'm contemplating giving up in the south and just pulling back to
some better terrain to defend in. Most of the south is tank country and the Axis has
plenty of fast moving recon units that can get ahead of my retreating troops and trap
them. I want to avoid that.

Here's the shape of the aircraft squadrons right now. I expect a lot of these planes
will be shot down shortly but right now they are all green and in great shape. The
proficiency is low and I'll be running them on a single dot setting at the start. When
things start to get dicey I'll go to a two-dot stance and shortly before the game ends
I'll go to three dots.

Here's the expected reinforcements and as you can see I don't start getting a lot of
troops until T8 and then again in T10 and then again in T12, etc. These are troops
that will be badly needed and those in T10 arrive in the south so they will have to
be moved. Hex [54,1] is up in the right hand corner and most of the reinforcements
will arrive there, not far from where they will probably be used.

Brian's attacks were so effective and so fierce that the entire 16th Soviet Army
went into reorg. They can't move or shoot and it looks like they are about to be
destroyed where they are parked. This doesn't bode well for the game.

The entire 33rd Army is in reorg as well. The Axis units will have no trouble
surrounding and destroying them. This is going to be a long war.

The entire 13th Army went into reorg as well. This is getting to be a habit. I
estimate that about 40% of the force is in reorg. That's 40% that isn't going to
get away.
