Can anyone tell me what role supply units play?

Post by nhill40 »

So, I think I actually have a pretty good handle on the basic in's & out's of supply in the TOAW engine - in no small part thanks to Oberst Klink's '42 tutorial on supply and logistics but...I load up the Balkans '12 scenario and what do I see? Both sides field actual supply units. To my knowledge, these aren't addressed in the manual and I also haven't seen them treated in any tutorial I've come across either.

Can someone give me the skinny on what these units actually do and how they might be employed?

My instinct tells me they perhaps work like a supply "booster" - i.e., as you move further down the rail/road network away from a supply source, the supply level gradually attenuates...perhaps these units boost the supply level back up?

Or, perhaps these units behave more like mobile supply sources and they emit supplies "organically" (i.e. irrespective of their relationship/distance back to supply sources)?

They are addressed in the manual (8.1, 9.1.7.3, & 16.1.1).

They cause location supply to be enhanced as if it were one supply radius closer to its supply point. So, just put them in the area you want supply to be so enhanced.

Depending on the scale of the scenario, they will have a range... Here's an example of a Soviet Army supply unit as used in Gotterdammerung 1944-45

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I apparently can't read - straight from the manual:

Supply Units: Increases the Supply Level in each supplied location that can trace a
path no longer than the Supply Radius to the Supply unit. Additionally, Supply units
multiply supply distribution to adjacent Cooperative units by 1.5. There is no effect on
Unsupplied locations.

I have no idea why I wasn't finding this before. [&:]
