Hearts of Iron IV

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Hearts of Iron IV

Post by PvtBenjamin »

Has anyone played Hearts of Iron IV, it gets good reviews. I've always preferred the SC series and haven't played Hearts of Iron since the first version. I have plenty of time and looking for something new.

I tried the Demo Version, so I suggest that you do the same.

It certainly looks good and has a large following, but it was a bit more than I was looking for. However, I did notice that you can set all of your moves to be run by the computer [pick and choose, you move while the computer runs your production, etc.]. That is a nice feature for learning. The map is seriously awesome, I think it uses like a 3D Graphics feature to allow many levels of smooth zooming.

I am not a Multi-Player and only had the Demo so I don't know. $40 seems way too cheap for such a game [for SC3 too].

I have HOI4, it's a sandbox game. Certainly needs a LOT of work and all updates need to be bought if you don't get the expensive version. It's a game where money has been removed to be replaced by factories, so now it's a factory game :) Germany is very strong and Always wins, USSR is way underpowered, any MP relies on war breaking out around 1937/38. YOu can i.e. as Germany get a war going with Denmark in about 9-12 months from start 1936 and nobody reacts, the world tension just goes up. Plane mode is confusing, having air superiority over 1 region does allow region behind it to be bombed by everyone, so they fly through your air superiority region to the other. Germany needs some 3000 good fighters to stop this nonsense.
Attack is by battle plans and you really need to know how that works, nothing easy about it. It's like giving your armies to the AI, they react the same as the AI. They do try to get your objective, but on large fronts it's VERY complex to keep track of what's going on. Basically, if you have more factories you win. Tech is Always the same, get industry techs first.

It does look nice and the game mechanics work, but new patches/versions need to be paid for, around 10 euros. New version can be 20-25.

From a pure WW2 war perspective, SC rules! :)

If you are looking for a deep intense open sandbox game sidely based on WW2, HOI4 is your game. MP with 2 should focus on i.e. Italy against UK, Japan against USA, etc. Most have house rules.

No probs but you should thank the Chinese for their Lunar New Year - hence the sale. It's a year of the dog BTW.

Right now I always wait for the sales. Buying the brand new games doesn't make sense anymore. In many cases the initial, release game versions are full of bugs. With a little patience you can get a game which is already patched and heavily discounted [;)]
