Caucasus/Stalingrad Supply Question

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Caucasus/Stalingrad Supply Question

Post by PvtBenjamin »

If anyone could help on this I would appreciate it

My opponent decided to make a run for Caucasus. He took Elista with 1 corp and then moved to Astrakham ( 1 corp) which I had protected. I went in behind him a re captured Elista, his corp is stuck between Elista & Astrakham with no supply. I have never lost Stalingrad (control everything East) & control everything south of Stariopol(sp). His 6 strength (**) corp has been completely out of supply for 3 months yet it doesn't lose strength can move and takes 0 damage when I attack with a 10 str un attached army. How is this?

- units at 0 supply may now suffer desertion losses if they are adjacent to at least 2 front line ZoC enemy units that have a minimum strength and supply >= 5. They will then have a 50% chance of 1 strength point loss per adjacent unit. If they are reduced to 0 strength then the unit surrenders.
- units at 1 supply may now suffer desertion losses if they are adjacent to at least 2 front line ZoC enemy units that have a minimum strength and supply >= 5. They will then have a 20% chance of 1 strength point loss per adjacent unit. If they are reduced to 0 strength then the unit surrenders.

Thank you for the response

Its had 2 10 str (army/corp) units next to it (german corp with no supply) for 4 allied turns with no damage. So lets say it beat the odds (6% chance) how can an full str allied army/corp attack do zero damage? Its stuck in the middle of no where with no supply in sight for 3 months.

Dunno the supply level of your troops in that scenario, if under 5 it will not trigger attrition.

Each pip of exp is like a tech level. Russian inf have bad stats to start with which is compounded that the units are unattached.

They are new troops (lv 2 infantry)but have to be in full supply. The locals would have killed the Germans by now [:D].

I'll re check supply, there is no reason they shouldn't have supply.

Whatever I guess it benefits me at times. Just seems at a certain point completely unsupplied troops should disappear, at least have no defense value. I guarantee they are out of bullets.[X(]

I'll move on.

What's Astrakhan supply level at? If it's 5, that would mean the closest source of supply wouldn't be enough to send two unit over the threshold of 5 to cause attrition. Only the unit in the city would meet the requirement.

If it's indeed the case, it might worth a 'screen cap' and a post on the tech support forum.

I had the same issue in Finland. A 0 supply Finnish unit could not be reduced by marginally supplied Russian units with better Morale etc. Seems like tech and experience trumps, starvation and no ammo in this game. Noticed it in other situations. The balance is not quite right. Supply should be the #1 criteria deciding on when a unit falls apart and quickly.

In regards to desertions, maybe it should be called attrition instead. I see a 2 dot experienced Airborne German unit not surrounded but forward losing desertions.

On another subject, reinforcements for surrounded/Isolated units. Seems to be a bit much. I have seen HQ units in the middle of the desert with no friendlies with a dozen hexes get reinforcements. Some of the quirks in the game that are annoying. They just detract from an otherwise good game.

So all you need to do with troops (especially ones with experience) with 0 supply is go to a region far enough from supply sources. That way when your opponents troops(new army/corps) get next to you they are <5 supply and you get no attrition. Attacking is futile, actually raises experience for your unsupplied troop.

Your troops can stay unsupplied into perpetuity, unless your opponent brings in HQ/bombers/tanks etc.

Is this correct?
