Alright gents, Wirraway is definitely bugged.
If you take all monoplane light bomber types active on Dec 7, 1941, Wirraway is the lousiest one.
It has 760 load capacity but only carries 2 x 100lb bombs, thus it only utilises only 30% of its bombload. Vincent uses 100% (1000 and 1 x 1000lb bombs), Sonia uses 85% ( 450 load and 4 x 50kg bomb), Ann uses 50% ( 992 and 1 x 250kg bomb) etc. Moreover, Wirraway carries NO BOMBS for extended range whatsoever, while all other light bombers carry half of their original loads ( Sonia 2 x 50kg, Ida 2 x30 kg) etc.
Of all light bombers who have normal range of at least five hexes, Wirraway carries the SMALLEST amount of bombs to a target located five hexes away. At four hexes, he is still beaten by Ida which can carry 240lb ( 4 x 30kg), while being twice as manueverable as Wirraway (33 to 17).
Basically, the Wirraway's load of 2 x 100lb bombs we see in the game is its REDUCED load for extended ranges and its NORMAL load is missing. I guess it should have been either 4 x 100lb or 2 x 250lb bombs. It is little wonder players do not know how to utilise this aircraft because of its faulty bombload.
Who do I write about it ? Elf?

Keep in mind the hard points on the aircraft matter too, not just the weight it could lift into the air.ORIGINAL: Yaab

Served in the RAAF from 1939 to 1959. Which capacities available at what date?
"The Wirraway has a total of 18 "slips" below the wings from which bombs, pyrotechnics (flares) or supply containers can be dropped.
4 universal carriers on the outer wings (2 per side, slips 1, 2, 3 and 4) for carrying up to 500 lbs of bombs. These universal carriers are activated electrically from the bombing controls in the front or rear cockpit. They could be used for the following:
100 lb anti-submarine (A.S.)
112 lb high explosive (H.E.)
120 lb general purpose (G.P.)
250 lb general purpose (G.P.)
250 lb semi armour-piercing (S.A.P.)
250 lb anti-submarine (A.S.)
250 lb high explosive Royal Laboratory (R.L.)
Storepedo 16" Mark I (200 lb capacity)
On aircraft numbered A20-30 and higher the two inboard universal carriers (slips 1 and 2) are strengthened to carry 500 lb S.A.P. bombs, in which case the maximum bomb load is 1,000 lbs.
6 light series carriers on the centre section (3 per side, slips 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10). These light series carriers are activated electrically from the bombing controls in the front or rear cockpit. The could be used for carrying:
8½ lb Mark 1 practice bombs or
11½ lb Mark 1 practice bombs
8 mechanically-controlled carriers on the centre section for carrying:
4-inch reconnaissance flares"

You can go into the editor and adjust the plane anyway you like.[:)]
A storepedo, or alternately storpedo, is a cylindrical storage container with an attached parachute. They were used to air-drop supplies to troops and civilians from bomber aircraft during World War II.
Full of regulation hats and not ammo...was that in a Bridge too Far? Can't remember.

Editor won't let you save any changes to scenarios 1-25. I was hoping for a correction in scenarios 001 and 002.
Also, Boomerang C-12 bombload is wrong as well. Its load is 500, but it sports 2 x 500lb bombs. It gets corrected in Boomerang C-19 when it has load of 500 and 2 x 250lb bombs. Someone had a bad day filling those slots in the Editor. C-19 shows how Wirraway really should have been - 2 x 250lb on Normal, 2 x 100lb on Extended. Most RAAF aircraft follow this pattern.

Copy scenario files for the one you want to a number above 25.ORIGINAL: Yaab

RE: How to use Wirraways
Excellent find, Yaab, thx for posting!
This has gone unnoticed for so long, no one seems to have looked closer at this little cousin of the Texan and its spin-off, the Boomerang.
Good news for modders - the changes can be made to ongoing games using the unofficial scenarios above slot 25.
It is even possible to add new planes types in ongoing games - the last version of the Wirraway got equipped with dive-breaks and could carry a heavier payload.
Here is my take on it:

Edit: Oops, looks like I forgot the start date for the Mk III - filling those slots in the editor is prone to error...

RE: How to use Wirraways
I guess you could change the load on Mark III from 760 to 1000 to better delineate the jump from 2 x 250lb to 2 x 500lb bombs.

RE: How to use Wirraways
Wirraways were considered in the emergency CAP role, but they didn't have the capability to intercept inbound raids in 1942.
I use them as stated above, trainer, trainer, trainer, maybe search, emergency ASW
I still can't post links, but search for the following which includes mention of Wirraways:
"PF171-The-Bombing-of-Darwin-19-February-1942.pdf"
The air forces stationed in and near the town comprised No. 12 Squadron, which was equipped with CAC Wirraway advanced trainers (which had been pressed into service as fighters), and No. 13 Squadron which operated Lockheed Hudson light bombers. Six Hudsons, 3 from No. 2 Squadron and 3 from No. 13 Squadron also arrived at Darwin on 19 February after having been evacuated from Timor. None of the six Wirraways at Darwin on the day of the raid were serviceable. At the time of the event, there were no radars functioning to provide early warning of air raids, and the town's civil defences were dysfunctional. In addition to the Australian forces, ten United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) Curtiss P-40 Warhawks were passing through Darwin en route to Java on the day of the attack. The P-40 pilots were in the main little experienced in combat.
I have a hazy memory of a painting in the RAAF Darwin officer's mess showing the P-40s scrambling to counter the raid.
All but one of the US P-40s was shot down or destroyed on the ground at RAAF Darwin. It was a bad day at the office...

I have to retract that statement. The modification is being displayed in the aircraft and weapons database screen, but the actual air units retain the 100GP bombs. [:(]
RE: How to use Wirraways
Yep, you cannot update an existing campaign. The new bombs are present when you start a new campaign.
