Reunited - Game Over Japanese Victory

Post by Mike McCreery »

Scenario 2, Da Babes version, PDU off

I will be playing yet another epic game against NJP!!

PDU off will help me with my fighter group organization as it will limit my choices. I need to work on this aspect of my game.

The first game we played NJP threatened India, the second he took the coast of Australia including all of Tasmania. He mentioned that he might try something new.. Not sure where he could go but I guess Hawaii & the West coast are not out of the question.

Looking forward to it!

We will be playing with minimal house rules as usual. One aspect of the game NJP likes to set a rule is for the maximum altitude of aircraft. In this game the settings will be.
House rules: not many, except pps to cross borders and max alt heights

Say 20k for 41/42

25k for 43

30k for 44

Anything goes for 45

I think this actually helps the allies more than the Japanese as typically the Japanese aircraft had higher altitude limits.

DBB has reduced max ceiling for aircraft, so there isn't aircraft that can reach high 30s or higher. So, I don 't see a need any restrictions.

Meanwhile, good hunting!! [&o]

I can't wait to see you use the fixed bayonets on that artillery! [:'(]
Looking forward to another non-standard campaign from two imaginative players. [&o][&o]

I will be following this. And, forgive me the boldness, hope that your opponent does surprise you with daring and problematic campaigns.

I know, I'm part of the peanut gallery. Good luck [:D]

Lets get right to it. For some reason the Japanese did not elect to use torpedoes on the 1st turn as my opponent noted. This makes me nervous as he might be planning for a day 2. Given our 1st match and his damaged carriers it would be an interesting choice.

The airforce takes it on the chin as usual

Ship losses are light due to no torpedoes.

BB Maryland goes down due to an ammo explosion.

By the end of the turn the Pennsylvania went down making that 2 BB's on the bottom of the ocean. A bright bit on the day was that the BB POW took only 1 torpedo for 3 float damage and the BC Repulse took 3 torps but it only lead to 35% flotation damage. The TF can make good speed and get back to Singapore intact.

Ahhh. This is good to see!!

Altitude restrictions are only needed if you don't use low CAP. [:)]

It's not a bad thing to have those altitudes though, and it makes the game compressed in an interesting way. I liked it when I played Greyjoy with those rules.

You are a master of the air war and I am a blundering idiot. It seems to me that there is a large advantage for the allies. In my other game MrKane was destroying me. He would sweep at high altitude and cause me large plane losses. If I compensated by putting the bulk of my planes at high altitude he would fly in low and smash whatever the CAP was supposed to be protecting.

As you say, this 'Compresses' the air envelope into a more narrow band and gives advantage to the defender as his relative high cap and low cap is within 18,000 feet rather than 35,000 feet. It is good for carriers as well for the same reason, they dont have to put cap at 35K+ just to make sure they are not jumped.

All input is appreciated.

My guess would be he wanted a lot of 800kg bomb drops and to go hunting with/scare the Allies a bit. In this mod, torpedoes aren't as strong as they are in stock.

2 BB sunk is pretty good result for the Pearl raid...

Once again the JFB doesn't reset his Zero pilots...they are just as effective, with substantially lower losses bombing the runway at 8k-9k rather than strafing. Although, there is a lot to be said flavor wise for strafing IJN fighters!
