german ai naval interdiction

Gary Grigsby’s War in the West 1943-45 is the most ambitious and detailed computer wargame on the Western Front of World War II ever made. Starting with the Summer 1943 invasions of Sicily and Italy and proceeding through the invasions of France and the drive into Germany, War in the West brings you all the Allied campaigns in Western Europe and the capability to re-fight the Western Front according to your plan.

german ai naval interdiction

Post by bstarr »

I recently installed the game, played for a while before I realized it needed a patch. Now that it's patched
while playing the D-Day start scenrio, the german AI uses its bombers to block off the beachhead. Is there a tactic to
prevent this? Better yet, is there a way to modify the game so that the computer doesn't use this tactic? It's not exactly
historic. Thanks :)

set up an Air Superiority mission to fly in the enemy turn over the landing areas, that should deter most German bombers.

Also its going to take such heavy losses (all those naval AA guns etc) that its not something it can sustain for many turns.

It's not working. I tried placing all three short range air forces on superiority and placed the eighth on superiority as well, all over the exact location the naval bombers are hitting me. I received numerous attacks from the germans including one which included 250+ bombers (I only managed to shoot down about 12 during that attack). Very little supplies are getting through and the only way I can get a division to the beachhead is if I'm will to accept losses 3000 or so men per division. Something is way off. With the volume of fighters in the air (The entire combined allied air forces, actually) I should be witnessing the Marianas Turkey shoot in the Atlantic.

can only suggest trying variants.

what altitude is your AS? too low and the bombers go above it.

Also put in your own naval interdiction, you should be able to more than overwhelm anything the axis can generate

It's only the D=day scenario. I tried the '43 scenario and everything worked just fine.

I did try different altitudes, I tried just about everything. I didn't try my own naval interdiction, though.

OMG! You haven't been using naval interdiction as the Allies? Read Harrybanna's tutorial post on how to do naval interdiction to support the D-Day invasion.
