Customizing markings?

Post by BigDuke66 »

As some TOAWIII scenario also modified the markings, numbers, etc. that are depicted on the counters besides the unit icon I wonder if it can be done in TOAWIV too.
The files used for this were:

For IV you would have to use IV's procedure for recoloring.

It's not about the color, some used to modify the units size markings(company, battalion, etc.), likely because they wanted to prevent units splitting.

In that case, the same applies as to the unit icons - any modification will apply for all [within that scenario].

In that case I would like to see the possibility added that we also have with the alternate unit icon.
If the designer can set one marking that is shown and second marking that is not shown, then it is possible to recreate the designs like it was intended.
AFAIK the different markings for the unit size are used by designers to make sure the units can't be split, I think there are also other reasons but I can't remember them right now.

That wouldn't work, as any change you make to the one set available would be used for all units.
To keep units from splitting it can be done, as in Russian Campaign, as all units are designed to not split and therefore all can safely use that same 'numbers' file.
What should be done is the original files restored, so as to avoid any possible limitations.

I was talking about the alternate unit icon feature that is already in the game, there it works too to set one icon that is shown while a second is also used on the unit to add special features.
But if splitting of units can be set expanding the alternate unit icon feature onto markings may not be needed at all, unless there were other reasons to modify the markings in older TOAW version.
