#2847 - F-8E(FN) Crusader [Le Crouze] (France - 1976) Radar Issue

Post by KenMech »

Hello all,
I have been playing NI Deliverance and have a French Crusader (14F #7 Flight Abrams71) intercepting some Bogies (#108 and #109). I have the aircraft radar on but I have no radar cone showing up on the map display and the bogies are never detected by the AN/APQ-104 radar. I can visually see the bogies and still no detection by the aircraft's radar. I was wondering if that might be a bug or something I am missing.

The radar on the F-8 is a radar ranging radar only. I don't think it's going to show up as a detection sensor.

The bogeys are detected visually by the F8 and the Tracker.

btw, that's a guess only.

In-game, that's true. However, in real-life, the AN/APQ-104 was used to guide the R.530 SARH missile, with a range of far more than the in-game radar range of 8 nm.

The AN/APQ-104 limitations have already been reported in the CWDB requests thread. I think the non-display of/non-detection by range-only radars (except for the purposes of R.530 illumination) is a WAD.

Thanks, registered a separate ticket on this.

Do you have any additional information on the radar system? Tech stuff, incl range and modes of operation? That'd be very helpful!
