frozen screen

Post by sebcho »

Hi,

i'm playing a solitary game, i'm in may/june 1941 in return to base phase for CW.
As soon as i want to move the birmimgham ship, the blue circle showing the game is loading or proceeding occurs and stays at the screen.
The screen seems frozen. I think it is just longer than usual to load but i let a day long the game open and the screen stays frozen.

I even try to destroy this unit in restoring a previous phase. As soon th ship is destroyed and the movement map appears, the same bug occurs.

I have already update with the last patch 2.7.1. It doesn't work anymore.
I have already refered this bug to Matrix support. They told me to post here on the forum and you're be able to help me.

I have so much hope with you, so much hours playing and to be stopped like this is very frustrating.
Tell me you can help me in solving this bug!!

thanks a lot.

I join the bug report. tell me if you need other kind of report?

The best thing to do is attach a compressed copy of a saved game from before the bug. If you don't have one, go to autosave, and pick the naval movement phase. To compress if using windows, right click on the saved game, pick "Send to", and then pick Compressed (zipped) folder. (Isn't Windows marvelously intuitive? Please, don't answer that.) Then attach the resulting folder to a message to the forum.
I thought I knew how to play this game....

Hi, thank you for your quick answer.

I join you an old save, as you asked me, up to more than one turn before. It's the end of nov/dec 1940 turn. I have saved games closer to may/june 1941,
but when i move the Birmingham ship one more time in a previous mars/avril 1941, the same bug occurs.

Maybe with this, it will help.

I already sent you the bug report, but do you need the save game from may/june 1941 or it is the same thing that the bug report?

thank you very much for your support

There should be an autosave (allies) available just before the return to base phase. The game you've posted has already passed the phase where you've experienced your problem.

Thanks Peter. I was using the novice set of optional rules, so no pilots.

I just tried setting up again. This time I placed all ships, all ground units with no problem. When I got to deploying the fourth FTR, it froze. Very strange. Has anybody had a chance to look at the compressed game file I attached?

Yes that posted save requires too much clicking to get to a place where the problem occurs.

Thank you for trying helping me.

This bug is quite bizarre.

I send you a a previous autosaved game as you ask. It is the stay at sea phase for May/june 1941.

However, i tried to move the same ship in mars/avril during a naval phase and the bug occured.

i'm so desperate. My wife is happy nonetheless. [:)]

I tried your save file, just clicking through Stay at Sea to get to the Return to Base phase, and although I could return the Birmingham and a FTR from the Bay of Biscay, when I tried to return the NAV, the game locked up fatally, in the way you described.

Next I see your game save is with version 2.1.4 and you said in post #1 you had tried the 2.7.1 patch. I think maybe you just replaced the EXE when you did that. But in fact somewhere around version 2.3.4 there were major changes in the data structure and/or the way the program accesses it.

So I think you must do this:
Use the updater to update the game to the latest version and then install the hot patch (which is only the EXE and not a full install)
OR
go to tm.asp?m=4379418 and get the latest version installed by downloading it from the members area, and then install the hot patch

I am not sure this will solve your problem though, because I'm running the latest beta and had the same problem you reported. Maybe the game file is damaged somehow. You might have to go back as far as you can to find an older save and see if the problem is still there. If it is, then I think this game has had it and you'll need to start a new one after you upgrade. If it is not, then you'll have to repeat the latest moves from after that point.

Or, is it possible you installed the hot patch before you started having a problem and the game save says version 2.1.4 because that's what you were using before? If so then your problem is most likely due to not doing a full install as I suggest above.

I was able to continue past your fail point and on to next several phases BUT, it took me 4 tries.
I did get a freeze on the first attempt with the Birmingham.
Then I got the Birmingham to work and it froze with a Cv to Gibraltar.
Then it froze on the Ftr return.

On the fourth try I was able to not have a freeze.
My suggestion is to proceed a sea box at a time and saving after each one. When you get a freeze then reload and return other ships or return to a different port.

I haven't seen this problem before (maybe Paul has) so I think it is freezing trying to calculate supply. Watch the numbers in the yellow panel.

I ran the saved game you provided using version 02.08.02.xx and it ran fine. I simply had all units other than convoys return to base. Then I returned them to the nearest port one at a time.

You should be able to continue the game normally using the latest Hot Pacth (version 02.08.02.00) from the point of the saved game you provided.

The only caveat I would add is what Paul mentioned - there was a change to two of the data files in July last year. You need to have the latest data files installed to run the current version.

The ones in question are:
LR.CSV
and
Standard Map TER.CSV

Both should be dated as last modified on July 24, 2017.
