Editor Error

Post by jcrohio »

Peter. I am getting an error using the editor. I am trying to assign a Tank an "Attack" command. But I get an error
stating "Sorry, Invalid Special Command Coordinates specified." There are not any coordinates associated with the "Attack"
command that I can see. Any idea what would be causing this? Enclosed is the Scenario file.

Thanks for any help
Jack

IMPORTANT: make sure you install UPDATE4 before overwriting the editor executable with the 0.2.69 version.

Thanks Rico but I did that. Not sure what this is. It was only with armor and only in the one scenario I was working on. Tried other scenarios and the attack command was fine. In fact I have infantry in this scenario with the attack command without this error.

I find it.
In your scenario, put Russian AI Attitude in Advance.
Save your scenario.
Get out of your editor.
Come back Editor and load your scenario.
That works now fine.

Thanks again Rico. I really appreciate your input but it did not help.

I did discover this. It is a little weird and I can enclose a scenario to show it if you want me to.

This is a little long winded but I want to be as precise as possible.

I got an idea from somewhere on these forums about when playing single map scenarios about making the game
use two sectors (with sector 1 being made unplayable) as this centers the single map and it is much easier
on the eyes. Tried it and really liked it. The first couple scenarios I did involved only infantry and weapons,
no armor. No problems. The issue became when I tried this with armored units. Then I started getting the error
"Sorry, Invalid Special Command Coordinates specified." I went back to other scenarios and tried using the
"Attack" command with tanks with no problems but when I went back to my 2 sector game (with sector 1 unplayable)
I could not use the "Attack" command with tanks. Infantry was always fine. Just tanks. This morning I tried
taking the scenario and making the entire left side of sector 1 playable and now I could issue the "Attack"
command to tanks. Messed around more and found the only hex that need be playable for tanks to be issued special
commands is hex 0,0. Went to a single map scenario and made hex 0,0 unplayable and could not issue a special
command to tanks. Infantry was OK just tanks.

So, unless something is wrong with my copy of TotH, hex 0,0 must be playable to use special commands with tanks.
Where this could come into play was if you were designing a scenario where only the bottom half of the board
is used and the top half is unplayable (which I did but it contained no tanks), you would have to remember to
leave hex 0,0 as playable.

The easiest way to show this is to go to the editor, set up a 1 map scenario and make whatever two armies you have
use an AI Attitude of Hold, make hex 0,0 unplayable, place any tank on the map, and then try to change its Command
to Attack. You will get the error outlined above. Go back and make hex 0,0 playable and you can now issue the Attack
Command.

Hope this is clear
