In the case of the 2 cruisers, were they already crippled and the subs just finished them?

It has been quite some time since I've seen so many working early-war torpedoes.
The issue is that with the SOV activated, there are almost 2x the number of subs with good torps able to interdict sealanes of value.
And early game IJ ASW is worse than bad until you have enough pilots with NavSearch/ASW skill trained up.

Daytime engagement, and then the IJN retreats back to Saigon to reload.

50% of the task forces torps are expended, only one total hit which was a dud.

I seem to recall one of those cruisers eating 7 or more torpedoes before going down.

Well, a poor day for Japan, as Allies surge their Navy up the Malaya coast on both sides with horrible bombardments. 200 planes lost, about 20 Vals and Kates get thru to bomb the raiding ABDA fleet and all miss. Allies lose about 20 planes.

Coordinated with a heavy ABDA bombing run.

3 Allied destroyers sunk, 1 DMS maybe more there...but a heavy, coordinated strike.

Marine Raiders land at Groot, but there is some elements of the 11th Garrison there.

Got the wrong turn from the Allies...with three games going this happens.

Allied bombardments are always super strong. Three runways closed...plenty of units to absorb the bombardments, even the Wake CD unit at one base, 500 plus mines, all to really no avail.

During the replay, did you get an idea of how close in the bombardment came? For a BB to hit a mine usually means they got close.

Unfortunately, not. I was so pressed for time, and running late in doing the turn, I fast forwarded thru everything...which really adversely effects your gameplay.

Perhaps with the turn screwup, I have time to re-watch the replay this morning.

ABDA Forces attack here on the road to northern Malaya.

I think a Tank Regiment will show up to bolster the line tomorrow, and the 21st Division is fully on trains headed here but their information shows them moving 92 miles which is definitely not how the rails run...so I bet they get totally screwed up at the station.

Ground combat at Taiping (49,75)

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 10547 troops, 197 guns, 308 vehicles, Assault Value = 445

Defending force 6779 troops, 119 guns, 21 vehicles, Assault Value = 190

Allied adjusted assault: 299

Japanese adjusted defense: 255

Allied assault odds: 1 to 1 (fort level 3)

Allied Assault reduces fortifications to 2

Combat modifiers
Defender: terrain(+), forts(+), disruption(-), preparation(-)
experience(-)
Attacker:

Japanese ground losses:
232 casualties reported
Squads: 1 destroyed, 58 disabled
Non Combat: 0 destroyed, 1 disabled
Engineers: 0 destroyed, 0 disabled
Guns lost 10 (1 destroyed, 9 disabled)

Allied ground losses:
126 casualties reported
Squads: 0 destroyed, 13 disabled
Non Combat: 1 destroyed, 2 disabled
Engineers: 1 destroyed, 4 disabled
Vehicles lost 8 (1 destroyed, 7 disabled)

Assaulting units:
6th Cav Recce Regiment
2/5th Armoured Regiment
754th Tank Battalion
2/2nd Pioneer Battalion
18th Australian Brigade
2/7th Armoured Regiment
Kowloon Brigade
2/9th Fld RAA Regiment
2/11th Fld RAA Regiment
97th Field Artillery Battalion
2/13th Fld RAA Regiment
2/2nd Hy AA Regiment
IV Indian Corps /1

Defending units:
Sasebo 5th SNLF
6th RTA/A Division
21st Div /1
5th RF Gun Battalion
9th Field Construction Battalion
12th Base Force

The 'miles to move' display always shows 'as the crow flies' distance.

The experience levels for some of the Allied warships should be getting scary good with all their bombardments he is doing.

Unfortunately the turn got screwed up and Obvert needs to redo some of it...

Yep, Allied force experience is very high.
