The Years Before Bill-1920(RB)

Post by 11Bravo »

I just played this scenerio and loved it!

You are the Poles in 1920 with some tanks and hordes of infantry advancing against a delaying action by Russian infantry, artillary, and some armor. Very nice map.

Didn't do real great though, but had great fun. My results as the Polish...

Losses Poles Russians
Men 222 380
AFV 3 3
Score 1134 1598 Draw

I only cleared the first two towns and had two more to go. With 16 turns, I was definitely too cautious.

Has anybody else played this? What did you think? How did you do?

Does Alexandra take requests?

Lol :)

Yes, I do, and that one is on my play list.

I can't say when I'll get to it, but when I do, I'll AAR it, just for you.

I also played this scenario and quite enjoyed it.You are to be commended Red Baron for providing a scenario from a conflict that is off the beaten path in terms of SPWAW.A very fine map, thank you.If memory serves 11 Bravo,I too ended up with a draw.Like yourself I was somewhat cautious in my strategy.I think I had one town to take when the scenario ended.

Fontenoy.

I just finished playing this scenario, so I can't pass up an opportunity like this :D...

I also liked this scenario, first because it was well done and second because it is off the beaten path, and I always enjoy "exotic" scenarios :D. (Good introduction too for the "White vs. Red" playtest for Warlord that I am about to start)

I ended up with a draw as well. Here are my results:

Losses - Poles, Men 185
Soviet, Men 460, AFV 2

Result - Poland 1303, Draw
Soviet Union 1405, Draw

By the end of the scenario, I had taken Cecielna and Slupno (Which is the same what 11Bravo and Fontenoy achieved). My northermost units were a recon detachment and had outflanked Radzymin by the north, taking the northenmost objective there before being entangled with the defending units in that city. My northern main force had broken through the last forest defenses and was poised on the western outskirts of Radzymin.

In the south, my southermost units were a flanking task force that had bypassed the forest defences and was on the southern outskirts of Ciemne. My southern main force however had just exited from Cecielna and was under fire from the forest defenses.

In my opinion Red Baron, the scenario is a little too short. I think 20 turns would be a good balance. Everyone thought that they were too cautious in retrospect, but I think they/we were just acting sensibly. No commander is going to say: "Hey boys*looking at his watch*, we got 80 minutes (16 turns) to get these objectives in Radzymin, so run into that open field in full sight of this wood line, cos' we don't have time to manoeuver.". The only exception to this would be if there was a strong strategic reason for the Poles to get Radzymin asap, for example: "There are strong Russian reinforcements on the way and we better be entrenched in Radzymin before they hit us". In that case, this should be stated in the briefing so as to put pressure on the player to perform fast. If not, I think a few more turns would balance the scenario better.

That being said, thank you for a good scenario, Red Baron.

Regards,

Christophe

Certainly it is one of my favorites, Baron! Thank you!

And we have some more "exotic" ones on the way, including Chesty Puller in Nicaragua in 1930, the Spanish Nationalists attack on Bilbao in 1937 and more.

Mark Eztra has a great one on White Russians vs Red Russians...but I don't want to steal his thunder. I really like it too..WB

I wonder if the name "The year before Bill" referred to the age of our beloved WBW :D :D :D
