The Accidental War Obvert vs Lowpe

RE: Soviets Activated....
Well, a fairly even CV battle. IJ would have had ~550 AC .vs. ~450 AC, but the allies had some LBA CAP support. And the allied groups might have been bigger, depending upon what Jeff did with his CLV and Junyo groups. Bonus for the allies is that the P40 is better than the F4F, so their CAP was both quantitatively better and qualitatively better than expected. We can't see the numbers with the abbreviated CR's, but on the surface this was an even fight inn terms of AC on either side or very close to it. [:(] That would mean to me, a favorable fight for the allies due to damage control advantage ... IJ ships are so brittle ... [:(]

Many night bombing runs across the Empire, the normal ABDA fleet naval bombardments, followed by heavy bombings during the day.
The subs are gathering against the stricken KB which made it west of Saigon.
Junyo made port, transferred her air squadrons, and will now burn up.

There is no point in attributing all these results to just bad luck.
The logical answer is that the Allies are doing many things well and Japan is operating in the opposite direction. What is needed is a forensic analysis of what has transpired to see where improvement is possible and how to specifically counter Allied settings.
Alfred
Alfred, of course, has the right of it.

Weather was rain for IJN strike, and partial cloud for the ABDA strike.
30 minutes warning for the Allies, only 15 minutes for the KB.

Can I ask what you are/were doing for search patrols?

Betties, Nells, Float planes of all types, Dinah recon, 10% of every torpedo plane, 10% of every other Val.
RE: Soviets Activated....
Here is the Allied CAP., my guess is the land based air cap was set to LRCAP a surface task force and not a CV task force....otherwise how could it have shown up in such numbers? Well done.

Well, I wonder if the Allied fleet will surge from Singers up to striking distance of Saigon and Cam Ranh Bay to deliver the coupe de grace on the KB?
Or merely look for a sub strikes?
Should be interesting.[:)]

RE: Soviets Activated....
Ick. Everything is coming up Milhouse in this one.
Bad luck on your strike. I did notice that you seemed to be using a unit that began the game ashore - in my experience, those kind of gum up the works and are unreliable until they are carrier-trained.

Ahh, the weather was much against you ... that is why your strikes didn't fare well. [:(][:(][:(]ORIGINAL: Lowpe

But why your CAP performed so poorly ... that is still unanswered .... [&:][&:][&:]

15 mins ... 80 AC showed up, so at best 1/3 aloft, 1/3 on ready 5, the rest 20 mins. So 27 aloft, and 27 more able to attain altitude in time ...
but what if they did a Midway ... got sucked down to the TB's and didn't interfere enough with the DB\s before they tip over ....
all conjecture as there isn't enough detail here, but certainly looks as though something bad happened ...

RE: Soviets Activated....
As expected.
About 12 bombers get thru, 2 hits total on 2 diff carriers, Shoho will probably burn up.
Allied surface fleets expected to surge into Cam Ranh Bay and Saigon tonight, along with 30-40 subs.

Well, one day this sub will most likely sink. Been at it a month I think.

Here a sub. There a sub.
Subs, subs, subs, .... subs, subs, subs! There are green subs here. There are brown subs there. Here a red sub!

The Shoho is burning! Other carriers are flooding! Oh my!

Here is another sub! Be still my joyous heart![;)]

Pumps are failing on the Shoho! I bet the fires are burning bright, a beacon to the subs that want to come and kiss her in the night!

Hey another sub! Will wonders never cease? Actually, they won't because 3 PBs piloted by scrubs actually put three more hits on this sub in a few minutes before running out of ASW ammo.

Breaking news...this just in...flash...pumps fail again on the Shoho!

RE: Soviets Activated....
Some sweeps...first sentai does well, 2nd and 3rd Sentais form up and coordinate and come off a little worse for the effort. Each side loses 20 or so.
The Iboat sent to pick up pilots blunders into a mine and now has 93% flooding. Oh my! It is a good thing I really enjoy trying to save stricken IJN ships.
I don't see it, but I bet the Shoho is still burning and her pumps are failing some more.
