Strategic Command Classic: WWII is OUT!

Post by Daniele »

A great classic game returns!

The Matrix version is the Gold Edition of the Original Strategic Command: Blitzkrieg and Weapons and Warfare combined. It also Patton Drives East expansion and Strategic Command Pacific Theatre

Brace yourself for Strategic Command Classic: WWII!

From the product page:

“Combining the ease of play, accessibility and addicting gameplay, Strategic Command Classic: World War II adds tons of features in a single game.

Weapons and Warfare (the expanded & enhanced version of the original Blitzkrieg)
Rewrite history with 6 full length, open ended campaigns beginning at key stages of World War II. Begin the war from the historical invasion of Poland in 1939, Denmark and Norway in 1940, Russia in 1941, Stalingrad in 1942, the invasion of Sicily by the Allies in 1943 or the epic beach landings of D-Day in 1944.

Pacific
Players will be able to wage war across the massive expanse of the Pacific Ocean. From British occupied India, Tibet, Nepal and China in the West to Pearl Harbor and the West Coast of the US and Canada. WWII Pacific Theatre features a very large map, at 198x82 tiles in size.

Patton Drives East
Patton Drives East allows players to explore the historically possible what ifs of WWII such as:
- What if the Western Allies and the Soviet Union went to war after defeating the Axis?
- Could America liberate a Europe subjugated by the Axis?
- What if the Western Allies had accepted a surrender from Germany and together they would fight against the USSR?”

Important!
This is not a new game. We are taking over from Battlefront as the publisher of this game.
The Gold Edition allows players to play:
- Blitzkrieg + Weapons and Warfare
- Pacific Theatre
- Patton Drives East

"Five additional mini-campaigns included, North Afrika, Kursk, D-Day, Market Garden, and the Battle of the Bulge each with clearly defined victory conditions and turn limits".

For this part, does that mean that a smaller map is used along with the focused time frames?

Or does it just mean that the whole map is played in the focused time frames and in-scope scenario objectives are identified / calculated?

That was one of my problems with the old game under Battle Front - was just campaigns starting at certain dates.

For smaller / focused battles that could be completed in shorter time with far less map scope and number of counters, I would buy the newer version and would look forward to DLC in the future.

Weapons and Warfare has a fantastic scenario of the entire Spanish Civil War that I am greatly enjoying.

There was a great scenario called Battle for Russia in the battlefront repository, that covered the war in Russia before AoC was released.

Edit, the scenario was for Weapons & Warfare

Hi Don

Yes, these campaigns use more detailed, and smaller, maps, so you are just playing those specific campaigns. While fun, the main aspect of this release is still the larger campaigns.

Thanks Don, that was my first design effort for Strategic Command and it's great to read this!

And a fine initial effort it was Bill. I appreciate your use of geography, for example around Teruel, that causes play to proceed in a historical fashion. It is easy to see why the war in the North was so important to the outcome, since until that was resolved the Nationalists were fighting a two front war. With your historical use of terrain in the North, a Nationalist player needs to really work for his victory.
