Version differences?

Post by Chickenboy »

I'm thinking of restarting ye olde game from an old machine.

I was playing on a Windows 7 machine and playing a PBEM version 1.01.08.r9 (8 February 2012). I started the PBEM in 2013(?) and played it until late 2015. Along the way, I eschewed any beta patches, and have only played on the latest "official" patches. No mods. Our last exchanged save was from 1.01.08.r9.

Due to real life issues and burnout, that game got dropped. In the intervening two years or so, I 'retired' the rig that I was working with and moved to a laptop running Windows 10. I downloaded the latest official patch-or so I believed-to update my ye olde CD. According to my load screen, I'm running 1.07.11.24 now (December 2014).

Seeing that 1.01.24 is available as the last official patch-a later official date than I was running (16 Mar 2015), I downloaded that and was ready to install it. The installer informed me that I ALREADY had 1.01.24 on my system and that it was already the latest and not in need of installation.

So, I don't understand what's going on. Keeping with the nomenclature, 1.07.11.24 is a greater iterative number than 1.01.08 or 1.01.24, but that's not much to hang my hat on. Which of these patches is truly 'later' than the other and should I force reinstall 1.01.24 even though it's telling me that I already have it up to date?

Thanks in advance.

ETA: Did I get duped into running some sort of accursed beta? [:D][;)]

I am looking at the game screen right now...

1.8.11.26b

and my .zip file from that download is dated 9/17/2016.

I don't *think* it's a Beta because Michael had to bow out and he did make an official release not long before that.

Why is that not listed as such on the website? According to the Matrix downloads section, 1.01.24 is the latest official patch available. [&:]

1.01.24 is the last official update. But 1126b is the Latest Beta, and available in the sticky part of the tech forum. The beta contains some additional improvements over 01.01.24....GP

Depends what you consider an improvement. I never agreed that making flak more deadly was realistic or necessary. The changes to aircraft speeds/maneuverability also sounded unnecessary - like they were concessions to JFB complaints. I guess my reticence was because I felt the early war drubbing the Allies receive did not need any enhancement!

Have to look to be certain, but those changes are pretty old and I am sure are in any latest official.
